AlphaTauri believes switching to Red Bull’s 60 percent Formula 1 wind tunnel for this year will offer a “big advantage” in designing its 2022 car.

“It’s a big advantage to change to the 60 percent wind tunnel, because up to now we’ve always had to work with the 50 percent,” Tost told Motorsport.com.

“The 60 percent is of course more accurate and provides us with hopefully more valid data."

“Then we have the second year of the cost cap, which means the top teams should not be in a position to invest so much more money as we do."

In was surprised they were using a Bicaster windtunnel. Does anyone know the history behind this facility? Did it belong to former F1 teams?

I believe the Bicester wind tunnel was originally Reynards wind tunnel which was then acquired by Jaguar.

A quote from an article by Franco Nugnes, translated by GT.

AlphaTauri: the "separate" aerodynamics at home in Bicester

The development of the 2021 single-seater is slowed down by the mandatory quarantine that the British government adopted after the discovery of the English variant of the virus: the team from Faenza is split into two sections. The Italian and the UK, given that in the Bicester wind tunnel there are about a hundred technicians who in this delicate phase cannot move unless they respect the two-week stop. Filming day scheduled for February 24th.

The mandatory two-week quarantine that exists for those in and out of Britain is complicating the life of the AlphaTauri. The team based in Faenza these days is as if "broken" in two.

The aerodynamics department, which employs a hundred people at the Bicester wind tunnel, is "isolated" from the rest of the team since any movement is conditioned by the restrictions that have taken place after the discovery of the English variant of COVID-19.

Those who are in Great Britain are unable to come to Romagna and those who are in Faenza have no way of returning to the United Kingdom and the condition is certainly not ideal if we consider that, after the Christmas break, business has resumed. for the preparation of the 2021 single-seater which should support a filming day at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari on February 24 if there are no delays in the definition of the Honda motor car.

AlphaTauri set to give Tsunoda extra pre-season F1 mileage at Imola

Autosport understands that the Faenza-based team is planning two separate sessions at Imola [with an older car] for both its drivers, as well as to try out its new car.

It is set to run next week (27-28 January) with an older spec car to allow Tsunoda some extra mileage as part of his build-up programme.

Pierre Gasly could also get some mileage too.

The team is then expected to return to Imola for a second run between 23-25 February, which will likely include a filming day for its 2021 challenger.

Yuki this morning at Imola. Sound on ...... prprprprpr.

Edit:
Yuki Tsunoda is ramping up preparations for his Formula 1 debut this season by testing the 2019 STR14 Toro Rosso, in the 2020 livery, at Imola on Wednesday.

With pre-season testing limited to just three days this year – meaning each driver only gets 1.5 days in the car – AlphaTauri want to help Tsunoda prepare by giving him a run in older machinery.

He completed his first F1 test at Imola last November, and followed that up with a run in current machinery at the end-of-season Abu Dhabi test. Wednesday marks his third experience, with a third different car.

It is understood he will also get a further test at Misano next month, though the difficult global situation means that run is subject to confirmation.
