Tyre warmers banned for 2007 !!!!

Post

Tyre blankets will be banned at the end of the season, it emerged at Hockenheim.

To compliment Bridgestone's monopoly in 2007, the Technical Working Group voted on the change on Saturday as a way of slowing the cars, because the Japanese supplier's tyres will need to be able to operate effectively at lower temperature.

2007-spec tyres are also likely to be safer, as they will not lose as much pressure during safety car periods.

Perplexing to say the least.

I think it's a great idea..........put some skill back in the hands of the drivers. Who would bet against some wonder kid being able to pull out some stunning outlaps/first lap on cold tyres

Slow speeds down..how about you make the tires harder?
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

They're already doing that by making it a single supplier.

They're doing this also. I'm with RH1300S, sounds cool :)

I like the FIAs ideas, slow cars down, make them harder to handle, increase safety!

Surprisingly its been working since 1994, grooved tyres are one example.
Murphy's 9th Law of Technology:
Tell a man there are 300 million stars in the universe and he'll believe you. Tell him a bench has wet paint on it and he'll have to touch to be sure.

Ying and yang, this application has good and bad aspects.
It will remove tires as an equation to speed, leading to reduced costs, and the ability for sheer driver skill to shine. Also, marbles will be drastically reduced, which is a good thing. That wil give more oportunites for passing, especially in the later stages of a race. Right now, with both tire companies putting out their softest compounds, marbles manifest themselves as the race progresses. So at the end of a race, anything off the one racing line is fraught with lots of crap that removes the tire's ability to grip.
The bad side is that this is one more step to removing different aspects from Formula One. Next we shall see one type of engine, then one chassis, and so on and so on.
But making the tires harder is a good thing for the fans, it makes the racing more exciting.

Tire wars always take away from the actual fight between constructors though, and always makes the prediction of the actual performance of the car difficult. Being the constructors' championship I think single tire is good.

If they do manage to make a less temeperature sensitive tire the the banning of tirewarmer makes sense and should spice up the show...

Hate to say it, but that wonder kid will probably be dear old Schum... traditionally he is the one who puts in the fastest in and out laps around the pit stops... and, apart from JV (can't think of anyone else at the mo), is possibly one of the few current drivers that have driven without most of the driver aids (including using a good old gear stick!) - so all the young whippersnappers are in big trouble![/quote]

Well, we've had single tyre suppliers for many years before [although I'm not sure if this was a feature of the rules??].

The tyre war accounts for the vast majority of testing, so hopefully the red bulls and williams' of this world should be able to be much more competitive in comparison to now.

Well, if it is....good for him. A better way for his driving genius to be remembered than some of his less wholesome antics ;)

Isn't Lewis Hamilton a bit of a hotshoe in dodgy circumstances?

It would be fascinating to see which drivers stood out in those conditions.

I can imagine some of the hotshots from the lower classes being rather good under those circumstances - they will not have been mollycoddled by the driver aids that the current crop are used to and will have to learn from scratch...

Agree with that, although any driver worth his pay packet should adapt in no time at all.

Would make for some interesting pit-stop battles. Imagine a driver comes out JUST ahead from a pitstop, the chasing man is on fully warm tyres - it will be much harder to keep them behind.

I guess this would change strategies generally as the pit-stop overall time penalty will be increased.

All in all it seems to make sense on lots of levels....

For pure racing and drive skill it has to be a good thing

Less kit to carry around and buy

The tyre manufacturer will have to make tyres that are more tolerant of cold running, which would be safer in the event of safety car periods etc.

One single tire supplier is very good for the sport,
but banning tire warmers is very dangerous in my eyes
because they cold tires have much less grip and
a lot of accidends will happen because the drivers
can't handle the sudden lost of grip after a pit stop.
And they left pits and have imediately to fight with a other driver,
which has much more grip.

Hasn't Alesandro Zanardi left his legs because he made a
spin on cold tires after leaving the pits?
Cold tires are very dangerous.

There will also be a lot of start crashes because of the
cold tires.

And after one lap the tires are on there normal
temperature and than there is no difference to today.
The tires will maybe even softer to reach the ideal temperature
more quickly.

And what about the ideal tire pressure.
Can you remember Mika Hakkinens tire burst in Hockenheim
at high speed because his tire hadn't the ideal tire pressure.
He could have died in this accident.
And it is much more difficult to find the ideal pressure without
tire warmers because the pressure changes with the heat.

So if you want start crashes, crashes after leaving the pits
tire explosions at high speed, brocken legs and deat drivers
than ban tire warmers, for I don't know what advantages.

dont worrie the teams will design and build the car around the grip side. Unless the FIA restict aero- suspension -chassis ratio. if you do that you may aswell chuck a one make engine in the back of the car and remove the "formula" out one the name Formula One and call it to down grade one.
thats the way its going. so berrnie if you reading this go to champcar you belong there not formula 1. ltake a look at champcar crowds since there changes they nealy went under due changes.

SO IF YOU WANT TO HAVE LOOK LIKE THIS ITS GOING TO END THIS WAY.

i realy dont see the big deal

sure tire will be cold the first lap out almost every other racing series has to deal with this.

when i crewed one of the tougest things was to pick the starting tire presure god forbid teh best mechanics in the world would have to do the same things

you say that it will cause more crashes so would banning T/C or limitting areo

also keep in mind the crashes in therory will be at lower speed then as well

i think the banning of tire warmers will put some racing back into formula one drivers will have to learn throttle control agin not a bad thing
