well having followed AM for years I looked more for his 'old school' stuff (but will follow the suggestion above)

over 30 years ago I pursued unsuccessfully an ad for a Pratt & Whitney Wasp Junior R-985 at £100
deciding that it would work well with cylinders 1 and 3 only - so making a useful 80 degree V twin
(though a colleague said that would have disastrous vibration)
AM then did exactly that with P & W Wasp R-1340 based V twin powering his successful Flying Millyard motorcycle
success being road-legality and thousands of miles on the public road (as with his famous Dodge Viper-powered machine)

I did get an RR Meteor (NA Merlin) - which might have made a V twin or V4
and flew with a P & W Wasp having the conventional 9 cylinders

Yes. From a non-expert perspective it's been interesting & entertaining. However, again from a non-expert view, I do get the impression that the particular engine being worked on was not so much designed but rather thrown together as a prototype from whatever was at hand in the factory/workshop!

There was a V10 penned by Melling with similar macro architecture, I recall barrel throttles and timing cover one peice to the cylinder head.

I've been watching Mr Millyard's videos for a while now, and I've finally realised what they remind me of. The calm delivery, the serious intent to inform, the methodical, unfussy camerawork, the absence of jarring background music, and the occasional touches of humour.... These videos are nothing less than really well crafted Open University lectures from decades ago, which older viewers may remember. And I think that's high praise!
