Energy Recovery Allowance

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Energy Recovery Allowance

Post

The first race of the year is a few days away.

The nominal allowed recovery is 8.5MJ per lap.

But Albert Park is one of the worst tracks for braking energy recovery, so they are reducing the recovery allowance.

I have seen reporting for both 7MJ and 8MJ.

7MJ is unlikely, and 8MJ is nearly impossible.

Does anybody know what the limit will be for the Australian Grand Prix?

I have not seen anything official yet, but the 7MJ and 8MJ reportings don't need to contradict each other. In races, the recovery can only be reduced to 8MJ, in qualifying it can be lower. This article https://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/for ... fia-daten/ contains a table with the allowances for all tracks. It is from last summer, so might be outdated, but according to this it will be 7MJ in qualifying and 8MJ in the race. The reduction rate is apparently 50kW/s.

FIA publishes this data on their official documents website. Document called "Power unit information"
