2026 development speculation

Post

We're a little short on data at this early point, but what I'm seeing is: in quali, the cars are 2s slower than last year but about as fast as they were in 2022. Correct me if I'm wrong. Owing to:
--30kg lighter
--FWAS & RWAS drag reduction on straights
--better acceleration at certain times (?)

How much quicker will these cars become? How will the new rules affect development battles? You might say all the old rules still apply. The wings and other aero elements still need to be as good as they can be, especially if/when PU parity is achieved. Or you might say that perfecting parts of the car is no longer as important, that the aero development battle was also softened along with driving at the limit.

In 2022 is was quite easy to deduce what was the best aero & chassis concept. It's not as clear this year. Is it clear to the teams? Are Mercedes' and Ferrari's more conventional designs the optimal approach, and if so, will Audi, RBR, and AMR end up replicating them next year? Or is everything too hidden by the power units and by the fog of these regulations?

I think there won't be a comparison base because these regs will be at least partially scrapped or "dynamically modified".
