Hi Tom - I can't speak for the other games mentioned; but it sounds to me like rFactor woould suit you.

ISI the developers have teamed up with Sauber BMW to produce a simulator -

Surely if it's good enough for Sauber BMW to endorse..........
Benefits? Very good physics and graphics engine. Comes with some good default stuff.
A word on the physics engine and the way the game works. The physics engine lets the mod developer use a fantastic amount of data to create almost any car you could conceive. Almost all relevant parameters are there, tyre slip curves, heat wear, brake wear, engine wear, inertia on gears, CoFG MOI - gear change speed, suspension geometry.........the list just goes on and on. The gameplay allows modders to set rules, which can apply to a series (i.e. F1 formation laps etc.)
Lots of mods to download.
Loads of tracks to get your hands on.
On line racing is unbelievable fun........

Try it one day
Downside - in itself it is not an F1 game, so if you want something in a box with F1 written over it this is not for you.
Some of the mods are rubbish - but frankly if you don't like something, just delete from your hard-drive.
For you - there is F1 2005 released -
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=F1%202005
F1 1979 Beta release (but very very good) -
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/series_de ... =F1%201979
and F1 1986 in development -

Oh...........and due to the modder nature of the this you can download the Nordschleife and run a modern F1 car there (just hang onto your hat!). BTW - The F1 1979 cars are great fun at Nurby........
