BAR

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

BAR

Post

Well....seems to me that BAR isn't only testing a all-new rear sectionof the car for 2004....if you pay attention to the pictureyou'll see a red dot on the tarmac....what is it?

It's a laser ride high sensor, first used by Mclaren in 98 or 99 (not to sure when the became a frequently used item.....one of these years was the year when teams started confirming that they used this system).

Because of this pic I suspect that BAR is also testing a new front suspension geometry.

Thats sweet, nice little data acquisition tool :) Are they running black cars this year? Or just being lazy during testing?

they're painted black because it's the "concept car".....the rear of the car is the 2004 car.....it's the "new solutions tester"

I thought that B.A.R. has stated that they will not be using black in 04...
it's jus used for the testing of their concept car..maybe they want to save money on the paint job of the car. The rear end of the concept car does look smaller, different than the 005.

David Richards has already stated the black livery is only for testing purposes. I actually think the usual layout is better, and we already have Minardi in black...

Furthermore, the black is because carbon fibres are black. This way they have to paint less, and just put the sponsor stickers on their places ;)

Just being lazy it is ;)
Jordan first ran their 2003 competitor all black (not painted) too.

98 Arrows....black....bad season.... ;)

Well....you never know....but there's one thing that is constant with all these teams....bad engines.....Honda has a relativly good engine.....better then the Ford....and much better then the Arrows engine.....this was one dumb idea from Walkinshaw!!!!

There is another reason for black, it is much more difficult to see all the details of the car when everything is black!

Plus an all black "paint" scheme is easier than painting the stripes and colours over the white base on the 2003 car, there is is much less sponsor involvement during testing. the personnel at the factory are currently strippign a rebuilding the old 2003 race cars into show cars so the lower workload prepping the test cars would be appreciated.

Also the all black paintwork keeps everyones eyes and minds off the new front wing endplates, now following the wavy format lead by Renault, Jag etc....

Totally. No point in spending cash on fancy paint schemes when you're just developing and changing things. And of course the black makes things difficult to see.. no contrast.

As far as wing design goes, it doesn't appear to have the wave in it like the other guys are running. Only the endplates look noticeably different.. now why do those endplates stream inwards? Brake cooling? Equalizing flow under the nose?

Michelin front tyres have a different shape and are wider then bridgestones so that must have something to do with it. The concept car also has different brake ducts.[/quote]

Endplate ??

Post

Sorry guys, I'm kinda new to this technical thing, but I want to learn. Most of U said that the front wing of the 2004 BAR Concept Car has a wavy pattern like the jag, renault,... But I cant seem to find the difference. U said it's on the endplate, can U show me where it is ??

I'm a BAR Honda fan, so I hope Geoff Willis can build a great 006 chassis and Honda can deliver more horsepower.
