The new Lexus IS-F (I want it..)

Post

There was much speculation about this car. Not visible changes on the outside, but under the hood....if only I could afford it:

pay attention to the mounting point of the side mirrors. I've noticed this on their basic models. Why would they put them there, instead of the standard place - i.e. right at the edge of the window frame? Less drag?

I noticed that the pontiac Solstice has it too
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

For an automatic, I guess that's fast. But the 0-60 is as fast as the outgoing E46 M3. It really needs to come in stick. That was one major reason I didn't like the IS350.

The mirrors remind me of the 350Z Super GT car - they also are in "unorthodox" positions.

IIRC Stillen managed to stuff a V8 into the old IS, without making it ugly like the IS-F.

Didn't he enter that car into racecar competitions in America?

Lexus did enter the old IS300 in some Speed Challenge, but no V8. Lexus was supposed to bring in an IS350 racer for the ALMS in 2006 (it was supposedly for a 4-door class ineligble for the 24 Hours at Le Mans), but it looks like it has been delayed for this year.

Look in http://www.automobilemag.com if you want a pretty quick link.

My car has it too, it is a standard feature in all new Peugeots and Citroens for the last 3 years or so. That placement has been a theme also in their product communication, as providing for lower aero noise for passengers, also given the latest EU regulations about side mirror dimensions (that have been very enlarged).

On that lexus concept...does it look like the front air dam looks alittle rice-ish...it does not match the rest of the car?
