When a Mathmatician Gets Pissed

Post

I remember doing this stuff in Calculus in my first year university class... I must say way to stick it to them

Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

hahaha, what a bunch of idiots.

The funniest part was when he was talking to the girl:

Caller: do you understand that there is a difference between a dollar and a penny?

Rep: yes

C: - do you understand that there is a difference between half-a-dollar and half-a-penny?

R: yes.

C: do you understand that there is a difference between $0.002 and 0.00 2cents?

R: NO!
....

then finally she said..."well I'm not a mathematician".....yeah, you think!

What the hell? clearly the answer is 71.786 cents, rounded to 72 cents
That's the answer or I've missed something, it doesn't take a mathmatician. 0.002 cents/kilobyte, 35893 kilobytes must therefore be 72
0.002*35893=71.786 cents

How do people not get that? what the hell is that guy on about 2 tenths of a cent for and difference of opinion. I would get pissed off too if I had to speak to these people.

Doh, stupid me completely forgot about cents and rounded it to 2 sig figs like I've been taught. I've edited it now.

Stay in school.

He should be charged 72 cents, lucky bastard. He needs to go down to the closest Verizon store and show them on paper.

I remember being in this coffee shop where a similar thing happened. Most of the items were expressed in dollars, however, the owner had placed the symbol for cents next to the figure...so you could see, say, a cookie for 0.99c (instead of $0.99).However,things like that I can understand. It is an obvious mistake.

This on the other hand is just sheer stupidity. It is one thing to overlook something, and a completely different when they're trying to argue that they're right.
