why doesn't..

Post

Hey everyone.. I am a Mac fan so I am not making this thread so we can argue about PC and Mac differences.. however has anyone else noticed that Apple as big as they are do not participate in motorsports? How cool would an Apple sponsored livery look on one of the current F1 cars.

It's just a thought, I know AMD, HP, Intel, Dell and other big hardware providers and I sat here thinking why they have never become a big sponsor.

any thoughts?

Welcome to the forum. I think that the reason for their absence is simple - most of the Apple products are sold in US where F1 isn't popular at all. Sponsoring a NASCAR team seams much more economically logical than sponsoring any F1 team.

they're already known for making "cool" products, no need to up the cool factor by sponsoring a racing team. IMHO advertising on NASCAR would damage their geek cred.

The last thing that F1 needs is more white-liveried cars. I'm getting sick to death with them already. As a major sponsor, Apple would probably insist on an iPod white car.

Maybe they should get a microsoft sponsored team. But their cars would crash every couple of minutes. (bad joke, sorry  )

Well, we support Mac... Laren.

Thomas, a Microsoft car would never start the race: while the driver reads the EULA and accepts the terms of the license, the race would be over.

Wouldn't it be a purely marketing decision...I imagine it would look pretty bad for Apple if they won but their car was controlled by a Microsoft ECU (as it will be next year!)
