here we goRenault announced on Friday that it is to leave the GPMA (Grand Prix Manufacturers Association) with immediate effect. The French team believes in order to achieve a constructive dialogue with the sport's governing body, the FIA, on the future direction of the sport, it is ‘important to work in consultation with all manufacturers participating in Formula One racing’.
Along with Honda, Toyota, DaimlerChrysler and BMW, Renault was one of the five founding members of the association, set up to represent the interests of the major car manufacturers within the sport. Toyota left the GPMA in August, after announcing it believed the body had achieved its initial goals in relation to the future of Formula One racing.
Renault said that after reinforcing its long-term commitment to Formula One racing through its engine supply deal with Red Bull, the team is now looking forward to collaborating with its fellow manufacturers, including Ferrari and Toyota, on a future vision for the sport.
