Will Honda f1 ever have a competive car?

Post

Honda has done well in the past. Can they pull it together this season? Next season? They seem to blow more engines than any other team.

Uh-oh, Ciro's gonna go after you with tables upon tables on engine mileage data...

1 ???

They've had 1 blowup this season, and throughout winter testing probabl the least of any other team.

Right now the Honda seems to be completely "Grip-Proof" - so they are slow.

Will Honda ever produce a competetive car? - no reason why they can't.

They have been so nearly there in the past; some things have changed and don't seem to have worked out.

With the right decisions, there's no reason why they can't. They have the facilities, the budget and the drivers to take them to a win, there's probably nothing wrong with the engine (it's a Honda ;)) - what's missing is a car............

their only competitive season was 2004, and there is a reason for that.
by the end of 2003, ferrari realized they were in a tight corner, and they protested against the mechiline tires. by then, all mecheline teams had already started their development, so they designed their cars on the old tires, not expecting that mecheline will have to change them. GUESS WHO COMES ON THE LINE? yes, honda... their switch from brgs to mechiline allowed them to build their car on the new tire, witch made them so competitive... other than that, i've never seen them close to the front! and i doubt that they will make it, not in this year at least..

Even the Honda powered Super Aguris are doing better than them...although they have nt finished many races lately, but they ll hit back with the Bchassis in Monaco..

Thanks for the introduction and the hearty laugh, joseff. My son, 8 years old, who is right by my side, asked what I was writing and he wants you to know he also thinks I'm an idiot for numbers and that the only nerd he can stand is the one that invented video games... :)

All right, no tables this time, you wimps. :) Next time you need the data you are going to miss my "small" tables!

So, I refrain and give you only a graph for the new members, showing kilometers per engine. Honda, in red, is next to last, not only in 2007 (cluster of columns to the left) but also in 2006 (cluster to the right). They are so bad this year that they only have better statistics than Ferrari...

First, the original

question: Yes, Honda is "pulling it together" as we speak. No, not with the Earth Car, the other one. Super Aguri is, quoting Anthony Davidson: "... teetering on the edge of points", as opposed to Honda, who are just teetering on the edge. I'm finding it very, very hard to imagine just what is going on with the team and think it better just to leave it at that with my comments. In the end, I wish no team to do badly, even if the logic of competition dictates otherwise. They're down for now and I hope they'll rebound soon contrary to expectations, as much as their present state is contrary to expectations.

Then, on to Ciro's chart ... I know I've talked about BMW Sauber in favourable terms recently. Propably so much so that one could presume that I'm looking at them through tinted glasses ... that's not the case, to be precise. I'm just getting a very strong impression that they're getting on top of the game and being pretty coy about it. P86/7 racking up the best average mileage so far this year, in addition to unconfirmed reports I've seen that it also tops the charts at 840 bhp is an indication that the championships could get a lot more complicated than what they seem to be like right now.

Rubens has now made a statment in an interview that he fears the windtunnel calabration is wrong he said
The car has improved a lot in the windtunnel, but this improvement still hasn’t taken place on the track,
"We have two hypotheses: either the tunnel is not producing the correct results or when the parts are produced they do not come out right."

840bhp seems a lot considering the teams had ~750bhp last year! But BMW have always been strong in that department so I guess they'll be somewhere near the top with power.
