Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

Yay, a topic with my name on it, although it wasn't a decleration of love as I hoped.

I saw a similar design in a car magazine in the dentist a few years ago and I wasn't all that impressed. I think that Citroen (Peugeot) are shooting themselves in the foot. What made the 2CV special was the inboard brakes, tin body and soft top, Oh, and the wicked suspension of course. All of these have been left out on the new model, now its just a snail shaped lump of steel

The original 2CV was very unique & one of my favorite designs along with VW Beetle, Porsche 356, Volvo P1800, etc....and more. 8)
The new design looks true to the original & fun to drive. :) Unfortunately, due to modern times, the design & look is all that can be carried on in new versions. Hopefully they will offer the car with lots of options available to keep it's base car price low & allow for customization.

Unfortunately, that won't help us in North America where we don't have a lot of European cars available here. They include Peugeot/Citroen, Renault, Fiat, Lancia, Alfa. :x

Btw, if I read the article correctly, they may use fiberglass body panels, so it won't a total lump of steel.

IMO VW didn't

get it right with the "new" Beetle and that 2CV "inspired" concept doesn't look any better to me. The original classics are very much design philosophy driven and I can see precious little of that in the prototype. A true homage to 2CV need not look like the original.

It can, but only if there's a logic to it. I do hope Citroën has the patience to work some more of that magic in their plans. Much better to strive for a new benchmark than a "form follows marketing" approach.

Hope the new one is a bit 'heavier'..

These guys should be creating NEW LEGENDS!!! Innovate and surprise us.........

IMHO - VW failed, the BMW Mini failed (perfectly reasonable attempts at cars, but nothing better than that), I have even seen a new Renault interpretation of the A110. What's wrong with carving a new path?

Until recently Citroen had a recognised heritage of innovation - if they brought out a totally innovative new model RIGHT NOW - people would immediately make the link back to the Traction Avant, DS, 2CV, SM etc. That would be a more powerful marketing message.

I think Mini Cooper S is awesome!

and the "new" style of Citroen is much better that it was at the times os Xsara and Xantia.

C4 looks like wonderful for the price.

Ive like the Hartge tuned Mini Cooper....and the Works Cooper S is also good. However,it wud be better to make them rwd instead of fwd.
Well, Citroens have always been designed like french designer clothes(for ex. the new C6)...but i like them anyways

I think the new Mini is awesome, its nothing special but its all young people really want in a new car. Its loosly designed on the original but they retained the general idea of storage space, it has to be bulkier for safety of course, but its not horribly plastic and, like the original, anyone can look good in one. BMW have sold so many off the back of the old ones and from new customers that you have to congratulate them.
VW made a plastic car with the same general shape as the original but without any of the endeering features, such as air-cooled rear-engine-rear-wheel-drive (or hippy mascots).
'm very worried that Citroen are going to do this, saddly its not the same company that made the DS and Avant as it's been bought by Peugeot but I still think they can make something amazingly original and successful out of a new design.

Well, I'm a hardcore Citroën fan since I was a kid and I was very sad in the 90's with the arrival of the "heartless" generation imposed by Peugeot (ZX, Saxo, Xsara, Xantia...). I've been really pleased with the more recent cars, when Peugeot understood finally that a Citroën would not sell if the values of the brand were so blatantly betrayed.

Of course I love the 2CV, but one has to understand that there is no possibility that the market would accept nowadays a car based on the values and definition of the original one. People now want comfort, good ratings in EuroNCAP (the European version of the US's NCAP) tests and status associated with their cars. You cannot sell anymore a car defined to carry people wearing tall hats in dirt roads with a big bag of potatoes in the trunk (the original definition of the 2CV). Even fuel efficiency is being questioned by all security measures (concerning passengers and pedestrians) that are now enforced, with weight penalties associated, so tiny engines are getting out of the scenario, also.

I see this project as an homage to the 2CV (just like the Mini or the Beetle are to their originals) and I understand that such a vehicle would have to have a premium positioning within their segment. I, for one, would consider it to make my peace with the brand - I considered buying a C4 but, since I don't need a lot of space and reasoned that would prefer to have a smaller well-engined and well-equipped car, and the C3 is associated with a more "girly" image, I opted for a Peugeot 207...
