I think it would be good if FIA would introduce a regulation that would double WDC points scored in Monaco GP (having in mind how difficult that circuit is relative to any other circuit).
i dont think its fair for having double points for just one race.. maybe if they pick 3 races will be fine coz if the driver retires he looses out so much more. but would be good to have a few races with not double but more points between each position so we will see more overtaking
answer that right off the bat. I guess part of it is whether "difficult" is the right adjective ... having little sympathy for driver errors in general, it makes little difference to me whether the car ends up on gravel, grass or brushing a safety barrier as long as the driver remains unhurt. Some time ago there was talk about how safe and pertinent Monaco GP is; I feel it should remain securely in the calendar no matter what. Now that there's a rev limit anyway, if safety demands it, it could be lowered for special races if need be. And to me, Monaco is special.
But back to the issue at hand. I would call races such as Monaco more "erratic" than "difficult", demanding a different mixture of luck and a different sort of racecraft. It looks like we're going to have many "true" street races before long. Valencia, Singapore, Mumbai (was it?) and perhaps St. Petersburg and there's a chance for a street race in Mexico or the US, too. I think the Korean one will be purpose built. As street races are so different, maybe it would be rational that they'd have a different points system from the other races. There could even be a separate "street circuit championship" (SCC?) which might add to the interest and excitement.
So I'll expand on your idea a bit and consider the "points of the points" from there. What should be rewarded then? IMHO speed, accuracy, consistency and competitiviness ... so perhaps points for qualifying, fastest lap and for finishing competitively, too? It can get complicated, but I believe it could remain understandable. Something like this:
Qualifying:
points for top 3 (Edit: Perhaps in the second stint of qualifying when everyone's running light, or by an absolute comparison of the best times on all quali stints. Or perhaps street circuit qualis shouldn't be run with race fuel on-board ... especially if there's potential to get points for the fastest race lap, too.) 3 2 1
Race:
points for top 6 finishers 8 6 4 3 2 1 1 point for anyone finishing the race on the same lap as the race leader, including the winner, of course 2 points for the fastest lap, provided that the driver finishes the race on the same lap as the race leader
Thus the most points available for a driver over a street circuit weekend would be 14. It is important that the points system wouldn't tilt the balance in car design too much towards street circuits. It is imperative that the teams continue to design cars that are fast everywhere.

It's not sillier than night race idea. I just thought that nowadays winning or finishing on podium in Monaco lost the fame it once had so I figured that successful drivers on a circuit that forgives no error should be somehow stimulated more than they usually are. All cars are on same tyres, all engines rev 19k and from now on Monaco will become a driver's race more than ever before. Just wait and see.

Point scoring should be uniform throughout the season. Why should special status be given to Monaco?, and also, a driver who retires from the monaco race will be at a humungous disadvantage. Think about this Massa and Alonso fighting for 1st and Massa makes a mistake at Casino and retires. What happens now? Do you really think it is a walk in the park for making up 20 points?
However they should have a scoring system that stretches beyond the top 8, probably the top 15, but that is not the issue to be discussed here.

Well, it is the most famous racing venue in the world, it has longest GP tradition, it is the only street circuit, it is the only circuit with no excursion zones, it is the only circuit that has a tunnel.
Every race should give equal points, every cicruit is unique and if you choose only 3 (or more races) there will be arguments from the fans of the other circuits that didnt get the "hard" status.
Even if you ask the drivers I dont think that you could get those 3 hardest tracks without arguments between them, everyone has a diferent opinion.
I agree on the bonus points thing but doubling the points only for the 'jewel' would be unfair. What i believe is that they should introduce a system
in which extra points are given to drivers for good overtraking manouevers, setting the fastest lap times, fastest pit stops etc..say half a point for
each of them..that would definitely make the races much more competitive, ok for tougher circuits like monaco, you can have more bonus points for
overtaking(coz its horribly difficult there), and similarly for fastest laps, incentives like these would definitely make F1 much more spicier and competitive...one more thing, for wet conditions, more bonus
points can be introduced.

Im against that one as it not really a race, it more processional than any other track on the calender. Fair enough the walls are close but they are at monteral too and there the average speed is much higher.
I'd definitely give more than 10 for ANY win. Winning the race was much more benefit when it was 10-6-4-3-2-1. 4 points it a lot in championship battle! I'd change the current points system to 12-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 for more overtaking at the front.

It is the most difficult circuit when it matters what it requires from drivers - ultimate precision & ultimate concentration. No other circuit is that requiring, not even close.
