i am seriously avoiding all pres from now on, even itv-f1, and F1 racing seems to be joining in the lewis-mania, after ditching Jenson in favour of Lewis, smacks of what us football fans call "glory hunting" by which i mean changing support from 1 to another when other is more succesful

Im a bit split on this, for one Hamilton is leading the WDC, second he is making the other F1 drivers look a little underprepared and finally he has (as much as I dislike saying it) got a better handle on his car than Alonso.

He warrants the attention.

All the rest is just the media getting in a twist, just as with anything else in this country.

I live in Canada, and (luckily) don't get direct exposure to the British press. But I do roam some Brit web sites related to F1. And the pattern is the same in all. Until the start of the season, Buttton was the man in the headlights. But now, with the recent success of Hamilton, Mr Buttton has almost totally disappeared from those web sites. My personal impression is that the Brit press are shallow and fickle, chasing the biggest story like a 16 year old boy chasing the woman with the largest breasts in view. Oops, there's one down the way with more assets... run run, pant pant, google, google.
What's the matter, can't the average British citizen follow more than one plot line at a time? The press sure treats them that way.

Personally, I too am a bit sick of all this meaningless coverage on Hamilton! However, I can't help but feel that Dave is being a little harsh there on the British media. I don't think the media is entirely at fault here...

I feel that it is just a case of giving the public what they want. The media, regardless of country or industry, is always out there generating hype and trying to find the biggest story there is. It is one of the main reasons for its exsistence. At the end of the day, most of those people are just trying to do their jobs by feeding to the demand as they see fit so that they can feed their families.

And you know what? The general public are a shallow and fickle bunch and that's why most of them love their shitty reality shows and soap operas.

I'm all for Hamilton doing well (go Hertfordshire!) but when stories come out about him 'going to be the greatest'... well, it makes me sick frankly.

Just let the guy get on with his racing.

I agree that the press is going nuts but the average bloke down the pub is only interested in F1 in a passing fashion ( mainly crappy football) and only cares what " The Sun " says is good.
Although I can see why they dropped Mr Button like a hot potato as he was pushed in much the same way but has had plenty of time to deliver ( for 120 races ) but never has.

I myself gave up reading the press in this country as it has always been the same , unfortunately i have no choice but to watch ITV since they dropped the digital coverage.

So Waynes im afraid you will just have to get used to it , as i had to get used to the endless banter about Button, but at least so far Hamilton hasn't made any ridiculous claims about being better than Schumacher or Senna.

I have by email before about their poor coverage and all I got was a generic auto email back which didn't have anything to do with the subject at hand.

While I agree that the press shouldn't just be about Hamilton(Should be Spyker ) I think they should get rid of over emotional fan boys as commentators(Allan) and bring in more informative people such as Brundle. I find myself agreeing with naknak_56 though about the press thing and Button. All I can say is that at least Hamilton hasn't lost himself with all the press and he doesn't seem bad as far as sportmanship by pulling alongside Massa and claping him and giving him strong praise for the win last weekend. So hopefully the press will soon get bored start rumors about him sleeping with his nan or some such non-sense realise no-one cares and stop printing drivel

2, I wasn't meaning people on the forum are going to hate 'our Hammy' but people watching the TV and seeing Lewismania, despite him not actually winning a GP yet will quickly get sick of him, also people dislike success as a general rule. The majority of people would rather see the underdog Davidson in the SA win a GP than a good driver in a good team get another good result.

The ITV guys are good comentators, some of the best in the world, 2 ex-drivers, a first class pit lane reporter and someone who seems to be able to pinpoint any single driver walking round the paddock, catch them and find out why they're not racing. She's also pretty good at changing wheels too. Steve's there because he's an F1 fan, and thats great because its someone we can all relate to. Really we could do a hell of alot worse. I hear storys of James Hunt turning up in the comentary late for the start, sneaking out for a fag and even wrestling with Walker on the commentry box floor to try and win the mic off him.

Unfortunetly they see a British talent appear, a really quick driver in a really quick car getting some frankly astounding results, and go overboard on it. I can only imagine they're not getting satisfaction at home for them to be making as much fuss as they are, which is why I suggested the porn sights, at least its legal
