All fall down (dial up alert!)

There's a decomisioned Nuclear Power Station not far from me and today the cooling chimneys were blown up. I was there with my camera of course

[Edit] With such a demolition its very hard to get rid of it all and as you can see there was a little left over at the side.[IMG:800:600]http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o206 ... G_0124.jpg[/img]

Was it exciting?

Bit of an anti-climax. I've been waiting to see those towers come down since 2002 so to see it, and very nearly miss it, was exciting but it was all over in 10 seconds. The shockwave was fun, not from the explosives but from the concrete hitting the ground. Its amazing, if you can zoom in on the pics you'll see, the concrete doesn't crumble like you'd expect but instead folds in on itself like wet cardboard, because the steel reinforcement hold it all together.

We couldn't hear the warning and I just had time to grab the camera and shoot before it all came down, that's why its not zoomed in, better than my friend though who had his phone camera all ready and lined up only to press the off button instead of the shutter.

I like the surgical precision in which they demolish structures. You realize just how fragile a large building or struture is if you hit it in the right place. That's really cool Tom. I'm jealous.

I didn't notice the noise really, I was more interested in the ground shaking :)

If you go on http://www.youtube.com and type in 'chapelcross' you'll probably find some videos or you can go here and hear for yourself

Can you tell me what you think my best pictures are too, there's a competition on and I'm only alowed to submit one photo.

and it must have shook the ground big time :!: judging by the video
I think pics 6 & 7, which basically show all the action are the best.

This was my final entry for the photo competition, I'm a bit annoyed that the winner (who had their photo put in the paper and claimed £500) was standing within 2m of me and took his photo within 2 secs of mine, so there can't have been much in it.

It always annoys me when news stations (the B.B.C. in particular) show footage of cooling towers (that only emit steam) when they talk about pollution and global warming! Sounded like fun though Tom.
