McLaren's special FIA scrutineer

Post here all non technical related topics about Formula One. This includes race results, discussions, testing analysis etc. TV coverage and other personal questions should be in Off topic chat.

Do you think the FIA are justified in appointing the special scrutineer at McLaren for the Brazil 07 GP?

Yep, seems fair enough to me

I know this has been covered in other threads, but I thought a poll would be good...

Max counters again, another poor argument where he doesn't actually defend himself against any of Jackie's points. I dhad no idea about Jackie's autobiography until Max mentioned it here, I think I'll get a copy...

Look at the picture of Max, he's really under pressure. Good.

Let's just remember that, no matter what the FIA is saying about the roles of the scrutineer and what he is going to do in McLaren's garage, he is there because Ron Dennis invited him first. If that wasn't the case, he would never get to be there.

No, Dennis invited only President of the Spanish Motor Sport Authority Carlos Gracia.

There are 2 extra important people going to be occupying the Mclaren garages this weekend.

An FIA Scrutineer and the Spanish Head of Motorsport.

Alonso, Mclaren and the whole of F1 are objecting to the scrutineer while Ron invited Carlos Gracia himself personally.

Well, as I read

about this ("Alonso appoints own Hamilton spy: Fabrizio Borra to keep an eye on Hamilton" - link, F1Live) on the BBC message board, I thought it was just a bad joke, or someone attempting an elaborate wind up. And since it hasn't been too widely reported to my knowledge, I'm still hoping this is revealed as just another hyperbolic representation by Bild. Will be interested to see whether he can be seen around the pits during the weekend, though.

An italian on charge of the scrutiny of Lewis. What could go wrong?

Who has this kind of ideas? Is Ronald Dennis so naive or is he plainly stupid? Doesn't he realize that his mere presence cast a shadow on Hamilton championship?

Imagine the mess if something happens: we'll have to wait for the "scrutinieri" to take a decission... on nothing less than the most disputed WCC of the last decade or maybe in history. Is he really an italian?

Heaven forbids, he might be in the position of having to disqualify both McLaren's drivers. I'll be praying through the first curve.

So what was the FIA watchdog doing while McLaren were using too many wets?

Or was it he who blew the whistle?

Nope, he wasn't

present yet. On Saturday and Sunday, yes. FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer noticed more than one set being used first. How, I don't know.

Ciro, unless I missed something which is pretty likely, the FIA scrutineer isn't Italian, the Italian is a friend of Alonso's who is doing supposed to be keeping an eye on Hamilton as a personnal favour for the Spaniard. What exactly he is keeping an eye on I don't know and I'm quite sure no one in the team would actually let Alonso know Lewis' exact setup if Lewis didn't want him to.

Non transfer of data in the same team is stupid IMO and will only ultimately harm the team result in favour of a selfish driver result. Back to the topic I don't see what all the fuss is about! Alonso whines in the press ultimately saying that he is being cheated of a real shot at the title because the team are favouring Hamilton. The F.I.A. then appoints someone to ensure that ther is fair play which leads Alonso to say something along the lines of I don't see the point of having this FIA presence, when he was the one whinging in the first place. What little respect I had for Alonso is well and truly gone after his showing this season.
