Just curious about you West. You okay out there in SoCal? I was there for the fires a couple years ago in the Marines at Miramar and it was pretty spooky. Hope you're okay!
Thanks for the kind thoughts. I'm fine up in the central coast at san luis obispo, and my immediate family it a bit north of the inferno. Many of my friends and their family are down in SD though, some of them lost homes. We think my girlfriend's parents might have lost one of their homes, won't know until tomorrow. Luckily everyone is safe.
Thanks for the thoughts. Our family is fine. Like everybody in the news said, it is much worse than it was in 2003 - I just went back to Irvine that weekend.
Anyway... our family got the evac call around 330 AM in San Elijo Hills, Monday morning. We packed for an hour, then waited for another hour for some reason, and left for Carmel Valley. We pretty much stayed there for the rest of the day, and got back home around 7 PM. There were reports of another evacuation, so it was pretty tense all Monday.
On Tuesday, they evacuated Carmel Valley and Del Mar, and we had guests stay with us all day. I was beginning to unpack my car until we heard another warning, so we pretty much were on wait for the whole night.
Now it's Wednesday and I'm back at work. I haven't heard anything since. All my stuff is in my car though. I think I am going to unpack this time, since nothing's happened for at least two days. Luckily for me, there wasn't that much to pack... but I remember looking at the wheels I just got a couple of weeks ago and telling myself "damn there goes 3000 bucks." Fortunately we were able to pack them in my car and in my dad's truck.
I woke up this morning to see that parts of Camp Pendleton is on fire. The winds have somewhat died down here, and the skies are a little more clear, but it's still hell for everybody else down here. We were just some of the lucky ones... as bad as this fire is, I still don't think it was as bad as the Greece fire this year.
