PSD or CPT object to vector (SVG or AI)

Post

Can someone help me out with an advice how to convert objects made in Photoshop or Photopaint into vector graphic objects? Is anyone aware of some downloadable converter or something similar?

Thanks in advance!

f you take the picture and solarize it into 16 or so colors, you can then bring it in to a vector based program and should have no trouble using outlining tools.

As for a stand alone program I am not aware of one, but plugins may be available.

Thanks for the help guys. Still haven't found anything handy.

There must be a way to convert at least formats within same graphic package. I use Corel Draw and there must be a way to convert CPT object to CDR vector object. If I menage to that I can save it as AI and SVG directly from Corel.

Manchild - Perhaps this file conversion site will be useful. Let me know if it is of value. I have not used it yet myself, it's been sitting in my database for a very long time; I've checked it & it's not broken.

Edit - I just burnt 3 steaks bad sitting idly tap, tap tapin' on the keyboard .... glad you found somethin' that works 'cause I got some 'slpaining to do =D>

These programs are free as in freedom. :)
I've downloaded those but fortunately found Stanford link before installing them.

It requires a lot of installing and setting up in order to make it run.
1) To run Delineate, you will need to install the following software:

AutoTrace 0.31.1
http://autotrace.sourceforge.net/

potrace 1.1
http://potrace.sourceforge.net/

Java J2SE 1.4.1 or 1.4.2
http://java.sun.com/j2se/corejava/

2) Set your JAVA_HOME environment variable to the location where you
have Java installed.

In Windows XP you can add this environment variable by going to:

Start -> Settings
-> Control Panel
-> System
-> Advanced
-> Environment Variables

Click the New button:
- enter the variable name as JAVA_HOME, and
- enter the variable value as the location where Java is installed,
for example: C:\Program Files\J2SDK_1.4.1_02

5) Extract delineate-0.5.zip on to your machine

6) To run:

Go to the directory <install dir>/delineate/0.5
double click on or run the file: delineate.bat

7) When you run a conversion for the first time, you'll be prompted
to select the location of the autotrace or potrace application file.
You must have these applications installed (see step 1).

In the file chooser dialog window select the appropriate file:
<autotrace install dir>/autotrace.exe or
<potrace install dir>/potrace.exe
