Audi develops clean ‘gas-to-liquid’ fuel concept

Post

While most carmakers around the world are focusing on downsizing engines to reduce carbon emissions levels of their fleets, one carmaker, Audi, has set out to create a new type of fuel that not only reduces CO2 by up to 13% but also cuts fuel consumption by about 10%.

How about downsizing engines + creating the new type of fuel that not only reduces CO2 by up to 13% but also cuts fuel consumption by about 10%?
In fact, dignitaries will be chauffeured around by a fleet of A8 limos running on the new stuff.
Why don´t they plug 2 of them and make a A16 for a better chauffeuring?
The synthetic fuel is derived from natural gas through a chemical reaction...
Please if someone knows how exactly does that works, then post something about it. And if someone can explain me why the title has the word "clean", please post that too.

Sounds like you flatulate into a jar and put it into the fuel tank, maybe not clean but it serves a purpose.

apol for the toilet humour, maybe not such a bad idea though

This explains a G>L fuel process with text,graphs,tables,flowcharts,diagrams...but unfortunately - no humour, no jokes (sigh) :D

A somewhat random

list of GTL links. And no, I didn't read them all before posting, just picked the ones that seemed intuitively the most relevant. An interesting topic and certainly beats burning off the gas at oilfields. BTL (biomass to liquids) is a very closely related field to GTL and has the potential for a closed carbon cycle chemical solar energy conversion.

Sasol Chevron's GTL effort
Shell's GTL effort
World GTL, an upstart in the field
Caltech's PEER project does studies in this field too
Green Car Congress follows GTL with a dedicated section
ASFE promotes synthetic fuels in Europe
A relatively obscure but valid looking feature about GTL's possibilities

So you would have to carry some beans stew for the long trips?
