'Robotic' gearboxes (need advice)

Post

Hi folks,

There are more and more cars on the market that have the so-called robotic gearboxes. I heard many complaints about these gearboxes delaying the shift, i.e. you pull the lever (or push the paddle) and the computer takes time to decide wheather to shift or not

I'm intereseted in the following cases in particular:

- Honda Civic 4D 1.8 petrol, 5-speed automatic with buttons on the back of the wheel, 140bhp.
- Skoda Octavia II 2.0 FSI, 6-speed DSG-gearbox with manual mode, 150bhp.

Any info on these? Maybe some personal experience?

Thanx.

No personal experiance but I think the Honda is a proper auto and the Skoda is a twin clutch manual with auto shifting.

I would say the Honda would be smoother in town driving but the DSG a lot faster (shifting) and more fun when your driving fast(er).

The Honda will delay a fair fit more when you press a button.
