rFactor - New to the Game

Post

Hey guys, I've always had a pretty low end machine, so until very recently have never tried running many games on my PC.

Now however I've gotten bitten by the rFactor bug. And wow what a game. (Or simulator lol), even though we all treat it like a big boys Mario Kart!

Anyway, being new to it all I looked on youtube at some vids and seen all thwese different cars people have downloaded.

I have just one question...Where do you guys get your addon car, tracks etc?

I've found a site called rFactor Central or something, but it doesnt have a HUGE database of cars like I was expecting. Anybody know of any good places to look?

Thanks for any help in advance guys,
regards,
-Spence-

FSONE is pretty much an arcade game, the physics are woefully undeveloped. MMG F1 2007 is pretty good, though only has one physics at the moment for all the cars. The best upcoming F1 mod has to be CTDP 2006, their physics are immaculate usually and the CTDP 2005 mod is probably the best F1 mod out there at this time, along with GP79. Use the rFactor Central rating system to find most of the best mods. Usually they'll have at least a 400-450 rating, and anything above that is probably a must have.

I'm pretty sure Grand Prix Legends is still the best game for that.

have to agree with that

I was put off by the lack of real cars and tracks for all of 5 minutes. After driving each car and track, any preconception that games must have real makes and locations flew out the window. And to think...the game is being developed by just two coders.

They listen to their audience and implement changes to improve the simulation realism. Couldn't ask for more.

I do enjoy playing a new game with new and exciting visuals now and then, but I get bored after ten minutes or so, and I long for the more realistic physics of LFS.

For anyone that doesnt already know...

BMW, Intel and ISI (rFactors creators) teamed up to recreate the F1.07 for the game.

http://www.rfactor.net/downloads/F1BMW07.exe

I trust the physics and setup of that car over any of the 'mods'.

I think they also did the F1.06, I sure hope they do the F1.08

Actually, the mod was made and developed by CTDP. The car is bundled with rFactor, but not made by ISI.

I was going with the news article on the main page of the rFactor site:
18-May-07 - 2007 Sauber BMW F1 Add-on

Intel and Image Space Incorporated (ISI) have teamed for the second straight year to bring the ultimate sim racing experience to PC simulation racers, featuring the BMW Sauber F1 Team F1.07 race cars . Find our more about this exciting vehicle Read More... To download this free add-on vehicle click here.
I guess 'teamed up' could mean anything, but either way, its still cool.

EDIT: Confirmed by CTDP as per below...credit where credit is due:

You know BMW's pitlane park thing?
Well the sims they got there use the F1.06/F1.07

Before they came out for rFactor, people on TV BMW running a game with one of their cars in, and it eventually became known it was rFactor, then soon after they announced a public release :)

rFactors best capabilities are not with single seaters imo. The game best simulates tintop cars. But being a game where it has to try and fit everything in, the physics for each mod are limited. So basically for a game where you can have any racing/motorsport series rFactor is very good. For a specific function, like simulating a touring car mod soley, rFactor lacks a little. I love it though, its great fun, had much more of a longer play time than any other PC game.

Lfs is better than rFactor in terms of physics

I recommend trying out some smaller formulae like F3 or F-BMW (assuming you have a decent wheel and pedals and dare turning all driving aids off).

Also the Nordschleife 2007 track is a must have!!!
