The typeface in that

steamroller logo is so stylised that I can't decipher the word below the emblem. Other than that, I can only imagine prancing horses have provided inspiration for men (and women) virtually through the ages. The "Ferrari variant" traces back to a relatively recent source, an Italian WWI fighter pilot Francesco Baracca who personalised his Nieuport 11 biplane with the image. Both Fabio Taglioni and Enzo Ferrari had different connections to the Baracca family (Francesco had perished in the war) and for a period of time both Ducati and Ferrari used the symbol of courage and chivalry in their racing equipment. At some point Enzo is said to have secured a specific permission to use the prancing horse from Baracca's family and Ducatis no longer carried it. I don't think I have the full story, but it's a small World and as Freud would put it, "sometimes a horse is just a horse".

Barracca's mother asked Enzo to use the horse on his racing cars because she believed it will bring him good luck.
Barracca's horse was painted in red on a white background, but after he was killed it was painted in black as a sign of grief. Enzo also used the yellow background, instead of the white one, as it is the color of Modena.

See here. Under "The Cavallino Rampante".

No, no... I wasn't talking about black prancing horse on shield as used in Enzo's era but about this 3D metal prancing horse which was never on Ferrari cars up till new management took over.

No, modbaraban, those were added after a direct order from the new management, which threatened to activate a secret article in the sale contracts and by which if the owners did not add them (they had to pay to get them, ofcourse) the cars would have been taken away from them...

Look, even the one on your avatar which I made two years ago is different than this latest one which is even more similar to steamroller's logo. It's not my fault, they're changing it constantly and the steamroller didn't appear all of the sudden but was there for more than a century. Anyway, no big deal... it's just a ripoff.
