I think it's because most(if not, all) teams have their fill of test and race drivers for the moment and he'll only get a place nearer the end of the season.

I don't know how's the deal between Piquet and Briatore, but Piqute seems to be in a weak position, I think.

I don't know if Davidson is better, but perhaps it's worth a try.

I'd say the same thing for (please, don't laugh at me) Takuma Sato, who seems to have driven a better season than Davidson.

Actually, Sato was dominant this year, compared with Davidson. Sato also has a very good sponsorship in place, something Briatore apparently would love.

Why would anyone laugh at that? Sato has scored all of Super Aguri's points. Remember that pass on Alonso in Canada? That was one of the most incredible things I've seen in F1 in recent memory. He has been faster or as fast as Davidson, and his average race finish is higher. Davidson is a great driver, I just don't understand why people seem to pick him over Sato, when Sato has performed better.

Yes it's true Sato is in good form since the beginning of the SA journey. But if two years of solid driving in a backmarker can help a rookie to be draged in a better team, it cannot as easily erase a few years of disapointment for a confirmed driver.

Back in the BAR/Honda's days, Takuma had developed the same syndrom as Ralph in Toyota, with too many colisions, mistakes, and inconsistant drives progressively mining the confidence their teams (and by extention the rest of the paddock) had in their ability.

Sato won't be back in a competitive team, neither will Ralph, nor Fisi. Those drivers are skilled, but they ran out of credit at one point. Now hanging on won't lead 'em anywhere.

Davidson to Renault sounds good to me. Piquet I'm sure has been hired only to sell cars in Brazil, which is for sure a crucial market for the losange, but he is really not up to the game for the moment. He really looks like a PR driver whose seat could benefit a better driver.

Also, there's the Williams option for ant, as IMO Nakajima has been very "Piquet-style" up to now, despite a strong debut at Interlagos last year...

ConsFW, you are totally right. Sato was always slower than Button but always faster than Davidson. In the times of "3rd driver fridays" I thought Anthony was damn fast, till he raced in the same car as Takuma.

I don´t understand how Piquet can be that slow. He fighted Lewis in GP2, he was Renault tester some time, (didn´t those guys see that coming? even if he was driving that slow? ) there has been sain that he is a "slow learner" and that he will progress much, but F1 is not the kind of series that will wait for you.

IMO, Nakajima was NOT "Piquet Styled", at least that´s what driver standing says.

Many other faster men were given much less oportunities. This leads me to rememeber one of my firsts post around here, when I questioned if a man like Ralph was there because of his name or what and how Fontana swept the floor with him in F3. BTW, did anyone see what Fontana did in last TC race? =D>

To answer the question - I don't think anyone will snap up Ant'

Nice guy, quick and British - but really where's the benefit for just about any team on the grid?

He hasn't looked Stellar anywhere really. Perhaps he will turn his hand to another series and do very well thank you.

he has had little luck has ant and deserve a better chance to show his skills
cant really see him popping up in another team soon so i would think his best
bet is to get in a competitive car in some other series or one of races and show
his race craft off

He was offered a test with BMW last year, but turned it down because he thought SA was going to survive. ATM it seems a testdrive is his only option.

If I could speak directly to the little chap, I would say - this is a good time to take a reality check. Right now, his head is probably not in the best place.

I don't know what a testing role will bring him (apart from remaining in F1 in some way). It's hard to see a race seat arriving in the future.

At his age and with his talent - he could head off to another series and really make his mark. Surely a better way to be remembered (& paid) as a RACING driver rather than a tester.
