Hello everyone, my first post here.
If, to quote Toyota,s tech specs "Aerodynamic add-ons, such as barge boards, turning vanes and winglets, are banned" how come they and Ferrari have them at the front of their sidepods? Or am I just being niave?
From that picture, ive thought of another thing for the 2009 cars, is that rear wing design with the extra element at the top legal for 09??? BMW Sauber have tested such a design, so id asume it must be.FLC wrote:Not sure if I got the idea, but wasn't something like that in use in 2000, both by McLaren and Ferrari?
If you look closely you will notice a small aerofoil on both sides of the nose, on both cars. The cockpit to sidepod mounting is like built-in the design on both cars also, but obviously the Ferrari nose is higher. I could be misinterpreting your idea though...
This picture made me think. Does those small horns on the Ferrari on the sides of the airbox work the same as McLaren's design around that area in the MP4-23/24?
@FLC: The vertical fences on side of the nose were a simple means to comply with the regulations of minimum cockpit height ahead of the driver's head. It was aerodynamically beneficial to have a lower nose. It can be seen on a lot of cars of that age, but it was later agreed between the teams that such avoidance of rules is unsafe and therefore disallowed by a 'gentlemens agreement'.FLC wrote:Not sure if I got the idea, but wasn't something like that in use in 2000, both by McLaren and Ferrari?
