All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

During the last three races I´ve seen MS right hand switching something outside the steering wheel. Does anybody now what is that? Oil mixture perhaps? Wing set-up? Suspension adjustements? You can see on video footage after variante alta´s mistake he moved something, and he did so several times today during the race.
Just after Schumacher ran wide at "Variante Alta" the TV coverage switched back to his onboard camera. You can clearly see an up-shift as his hand moves behind the wheel, then he slips his right hand to the right on the cockpit and starts setting something on the car for quite a few seconds, then you listen a second up-shift while he keeps his hand down there in circular movements and finally he gets it back on the wheel and shifts to 7th gear.

His gearbox is activated through a butterfly paddle; he can pull the right lever for an upshift, or he can push the left one for the same effect. In either case the right paddle comes toward him, indicating an upshift.

He adjusted the break balance every lap as he went down that sloping down section.

Thts right, Each time after he exited Viriante Alta he adjusted his brake balance. This is because the following corners at Imola are the Rivazza corners. The first of which is aporached downhill and therefore requires a diffrent brake balance due to the different way in which the cars weight will shift under braking.

To be able to do that... while chasing Jenson in the near-perfect BAR, I think, is the sign of a true Maestro :)

I'm not an MS fan, but you have to give credit to the man.

Does anyone know, what are the other things they can adjust in the cockpit during the race (buttons, levers, anything...)?

Schumacher has been adjusting his brake balance during laps for quite a while now. Don't know if anyone else does it? I heard once he was trying to change it while he was braking. If that 's true Michael a freak!

oh yes they do!
I often see Alonso do it, and have seen Montoya switching it during the 2003 french GP, in his qualifying lap

Fellow pgrazia, you have just ripped my text posted at the Atlasf1 Technical F1 Forum!

On top of that you added your own personal and uninformed view of what that off-wheel knob might be doing (moveable wings or suspension are not allowed).

I understand it was easier for you this way and I don't mind at all that you steal someone's ideas by copy&pasting their posts, but please give those quotes the right credits and above all don't mix them with your own thoughts.

By the way, that knob is perfectly legal and it's the brake balance tunner.

PS: My original post can be find here.

You're all wrong. Theres a jack-in-the-box down there that schumi races with to make the races more interesting for him. Between turns he cranks the thing up and sees if he can make it to the next corner before it pops open. His mistakes in China, all caused by that damn jack-in-the-box,

You can adjust diff and brake balance. They are the main things, but I'm sure you can adjust revs, fuel mixture and probably heaps of other stuff.
