Domenicali thinking about quitting.

When interviewed Domenicali confirmed that he woud tender his resignation if that would help his team. I think it is way too late for Montezemolo to do this. The Italian press will be asking for heads to roll soon and Domenicali will be first in the line of fire. So Domenicali will not make it through the year with Massa already publicly saying that all ist lost for 2009 and Kimi in cruise mode for some months. I would think that even the Italians will soon be knocking on Luca's door. In the end his desk is where the buck stops. He kicked Ross Brawn out who would have been the ideal successor for Todt and fired Todt before he had someone of comparable caliber. Tough times for Maranello particularly if the will not race F1 next year and will fall further behind.
Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best .............................. organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)

It would be simply brilliant for Ferrari to withdraw for 2010.

They would then be able to develop a killer car for 18 months to the "budget cap" regulations, copy anything that they see to be advantageous from the teams that DO run, and show up in 2011 with a $600M car that is not restricted to the $40M cap with Alonso and Vettel driving, and be on top of F1 until the next rule change.

Perhaps it is time for Domenicali to step aside.

It's understandable that Ferrari would be behind the pace this season as the Championship fight last year delayed development of this year's cars for all of the contenders. That's excusable. However, there is no excuse for the mistakes that have plagued Ferrari since 2007. They continue to mount up and show no sign of abating. Were it not for favorable circumstances in 2007 and 2008, Ferrari would not have won those Championships despite having a highly competitive car, if not the fastest one in the field. Those two seasons, I bet, would have been vastly different experiences if Todt and Brawn had been in charge of the team.

It would seem to me that Domenicali has to have done what he could to try and correct these mistakes. Whatever those solutions are though, they don't appear to be working. With the F60 showing great improvement in Spain, it would be a shame to see the team unable to make the most of continued development due to shoddy decision-making and stupid errors.

I would suggest the team bring in Michael Schumacher for the post if he would take it. I think his experience, perseverance and temperament are perfect for the job, not to mention the fact that he is well-respected within the team.

(Yet, as much as seeing Ferrari struggle with stupid mistakes makes me cringe, it's nothing compared to the sour feeling I got in my stomach when Schumacher and the gang took, shall we say, liberties with the rules.)

Exactly why the big teams are against the new proposals. They're afraid of been hit in the face by the new teams who can test and spend whatever they want and come up with a brilliant car..

I think there's too much talk out of nothing.
Here's from autosport
Q. Talking about the mistakes and the problems, do you worry about your own position in the team?

SD: To be honest with you, that is not really the problem. If that was the problem by the fact that I could be available for everything and the situation would improve, then a company guy who has worked for Ferrari for 20 years, I would be the first to do it. To be honest I don't think that is the point to make sure we are able to go back to our standard level.

Good riddance. Domenicali hasn't lived up to expectations, I think it's time for Ferrari to chase Geoff Willis.
