Juan Manuel Fangio, of course.

Total number of hat tricks:

Driver Races with hat trick (pole, win & fastest lap)
1 Michael Schumacher 22
2 Jim Clark 11
3 Juan Manuel Fangio 9
4 Alain Prost 8
5 Alberto Ascari 7
Ayrton Senna 7
7 Mika Häkkinen 5
Damon Hill 5
Nigel Mansell 5
10 Jacky Ickx 4
Stirling Moss 4
Jackie Stewart 4
Felipe Massa 4

Actually, I'm not sure: I know well that in the first race of history (Silverstone, 1950) Farina won and got the pole. In the second race in history, a week later (Monaco, 1950), Fangio did the same. I don't know if any of them got the fastest lap.

I'm very surprised Kimi and Alonso have not done it.

Kimi puts some blistering laps towards the end, but it must be when the race is out of contention.

Ciro where did you compile (copy?) that info from?

Wikipedia has a page called http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Fo ... er_records. I was reading it yesterday, by chance. I confess I read it once in a while... :oops: and I haven't checked in months. Is updated frequently and it has changed a lot since my last visit.

Yesterday, the name "Grand Chelem" caught my eye (like Grand Slam, but in french), which is the record list right below "Hat tricks".

Apparently that thing is to win a hat trick PLUS leading all the race. I've never heard the term, much less seen the statistics.

Anyway, after I copied/paste, I finally thought that not everybody was in the list (just the first 10 guys), so maybe Alonso and Kimi had done it, but less than four times (the hat tricks of Massa, last in the list).

Then I went to grandprix.com and its lovely Encyclopedia of Races where I was enlightened about Farina first victory and Fangio first win in Monaco.

So, in the end, I don't know. 8)

Finally, I also have to confess that yesterday I was very happy learning that Louis Chiron competed at 58. I still have a chance.

There are people with better numbers than Senna, many people hasn't seen them racing. Senna is only 8th in number of percentage of wins, 3rd in total wins (behind Alain Prost). Of course, his career was truncated, but guys like Jim Clark, with 7 out of 10 races won in 1963, Ascari, with 6 wins out of 8 and Fangio with 6 out of 9 in 1952 and 1954 were more "dominant" in their respective epochs. Ascari is also the guy with most consecutive wins.

So, I'm lead to think that perhaps Senna is that famous because he raced against Alain Prost and I thank the gods of racing for having seen them compete. They split the numbers, in consequence.

My favorite driver, Tazio Nuvolari, doesn't appear in any record... ;)

In the history of the Grand Prix (before 1950) the guy with better numbers is Ralph De Palma, way better than Michael Schumacher (number of estimated victories: over 2000. Allegedly, he raced in 2,889 races and won 2,557). Every time somebody mentions "the best driver in history" I post this picture:

I'm sure his battling with Prost has skewed that record. Not like Ralph's brother who had it easy with teammates.

Ciro our guy Sir Jack won 4 GP's in a row in 1966 - French British Dutch German (the old Nurburging circuit) - not bad especially in those days.

after sitting back and thinking about it, Senna had alot of P1's, and a good number of wins, but I cant remember how often he was setting those fast laps, I didnt get to see the entire races back then.

Thats my man at no 2.One of the best F1 races , the 1967 Italian GP .
In the 1967 Italian Grand Prix, after starting from pole, Clark was leading in his Lotus 49 , when a tyre punctured. He lost an entire lap while having the wheel changed in the pits. Rejoining sixteenth, Clark ripped back through the field, progressively lowering the lap record and eventually equalling his pole time of 1m 28.5s, to regain the lost lap and the lead. He was narrowly ahead of Brabham and Surtees starting the last lap, but his car had not been filled with enough fuel for such a performance — it faltered, and finally coasted across the finish line in third place.

I raise you the Hat-Trick and present the Grand Slam. How many drivers have done the criteria of the Grand Slam;

* Pole Posistion
* Fastest Lap
* Win
* Lights to Flag, no loss of lead during the race.

Perhaps he had it easy with team mates because he was just better than them. Thought of that?

Your love for Ferrari makes you blind to facts that are stated in your quote of my message, or you just want to argue.

I never said that MS wasn't better than his teammates, I was merely pointing out that he never had a 'Prost' for a teammate, and his record looks quite golden because of it.

I am telling you, that if he had more challenging teammates, like say Mika, his record would have been more in line with Senna's.

So yes, I had thought of that, and I also am not such a blind fan to any one team or driver that I get all defensive when someone says anything remotely negative about them.

So defensive.... don't worry... it's a record.... it's on the books... it will stand.
