Do they really have this?

I remember watching an episode of Tomorrow's World in 1994, where they tested a primitive helmet based HUD with Johnny Herbert driving a Lotus.

Technology has advanced so much since then, I think that it must have been applied somewhere along the line : I can also remember commentators making references to the technology several years ago, but with no clear technical information.

There is a project involving firefighters and head-up displays. It shows maps and emergency messages on the visor.

so something like this could be used to indicate pit messages or warnings.

they need a red light in the top right & left corners to indicate when another car is in their blindspot

Good idea ... maybe you could take it a step further & have a sequence of lights that indicate how deep into the blindspot the other car is : the sensor technology isn't expensive or heavy, and it would certainly be a good safety initiative.

give them too much info and they will start to ignore it... they will say... "well he was only halfway into my blindspot so I had the position"

A nice big red light whenever the tip of the nose of the following car comes even with the rear crash structure of the leading car... and if the driver moves over when the red light is on(and causes an accident) give them a nice big penalty and fine for blocking

basic information is ok.

If pilots have info about cars in blind spots it may create the relaxation effect of trusting too much in the sensors and displayed alarms.

blue and yellow lights for flags, team radio and emergency info are good enough for a start. Remember Murphy's law!
