Testing rules 2010

some changes to the regulations.

Personally I'm interested in this feature - team may choose whether they want on track aero-test (straight line or constant radius) or 4 hours of full-scale wind-tunnel testing over 24 hours. Which they would choose? Seems like an interesting twist.

Substitute drivers allowed test days

That seems to be a good idea.

Id much prefer the teams to be allowed two 2-day tests mid season for young, development and test drivers only, with a joker day where at least 2 teams need to be present at. Say, all the teams with Mereceds power test together for their joker day.

Testing is a must, but the less days done so, the better.

So Stefan GP intends to sell their potential 2010 testing runs to other F1 teams and drivers with sponsorship.
#-o They are not going to endear themselves to the FIA and FOTA that way.

These testing rules are still not adequate.

Teams should be allowed to nominate a test circuit and be allowed to test there for 1 day per week.
That limits running and allows proper development of the cars.
Tyres can also b limited to one compound.

But these rules as proposed, are still hogwash

One day a week on a real circuit* would be a waste of money. Imagine how much would be spent on logistics and preparation only to have a single day of testing available. IMO the limit is at least two days, anything under that is useless and pointless.

*excludes straightline testing and constant radius tracks.

perhaps, but most teams are based in England and are close to Silverstone.
Ferrari has its own circuit. Sauber may be at a disadvantage but they do have a few circuits relatively close by.

2 Days every fortnight would seem to be a suitable compromise.

True, I hadn't considered the 'home' tracks like Silverstone, Fiorano, Mugello, etc.

But then why is it that teams flock to the Spanish tracks? Weather, characteristics?
