Lets look up the synonyms of Blown away:
shocked, amazed, astonished, astounded, dumbfounded, flabbergasted, jolted, rendered speechless, startled, stunned, stupefied

overwhelmed; visibly moved, affected, at a loss for words, beaten, bowled-over, buried, conquered, defeated, overthrown, run-over, speechless, swamped, swept off one's feet, taken, unable to continue

Alonso WAS BLOWN AWAY!

Ye, what can you say really. They are both great drivers isn´t that enough?

Facts says Fernando is better since he has more titels but he has been longer in F1 and during the era of Ferrari dominance so.

Personally I think it´s very unmature of Lewis to say these things.

Blew him away...right out of his team. They had the same points :O A fact some people like to forget. Beat him with positions but not on points. Kimi won that year with an epic-fail from Lewis, so he(Lewis) can't gloat.

Not surprised at this to be honest. Pre-season fighting talk!

What're the chances Lewis had a whiskey or two when he was talking? It was an interview for Johnny Walker after-all.

Most importantly: Does Lewis even like a dram?

F1 needs more of this, whatever driver you favor on this debate, I like to see a driver speak his mind. Stoke the fire, get people interested.
Before I do anything I ask myself “Would an idiot do that?” And if the answer is yes, I do not do that thing. - Dwight Schrute

Yup, Lewis Hamilton did perform well in 2007, and yes, he was leading Alonso in points. But never forget that in the end, when it really counted, Lewis Hamilton did one of the all-time choke jobs, allowing Kimi to win the WDC.

Who can forget Hamilton beached in the gravel in China? Oh yea, Kimi won it, Alonso finished second.

Hamilton allowed himself to get caught up in a battle with his teammate, and allowed Kimi to win the WDC. Of course, the manufacturer's title was out of reach for McLaren because of ... a scandal.

I believe all this trash talk by Hamilton is just to pump up the British tabloids and fanboys, because in truth, he was tough and quick, but when it really, really counted, he choked like the rookie he was at that time.

Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.

I can think of an appropriate anthem for the new much needed Fanboy Ying Yang subforum.

That's a harsh response. :)
Are people really disgusted that much by what he says?
The sport needs this attitude. :P
I think Alonso was surprised, if you look at the perspective of Hamilton being a rookie. We think of 2007 as if Hamilton was who he is now; a WDC, but Alonso was not racing with 2009 LH, he was racing with a first timer, that in it self is reason to suggest Alonso was "blown away" or flabbergasted. Obviously not on points. Blown away by the kid's speed, tenacity and race craft.

If we contrast other experienced driver-rookie pairing over the years, Nothing is as mind blowing as the 2007 Mclaren pairing.

Rookies aren't suppose to challenge 2 time WDC for wins much less the championship.
Rookies aren't supposed to be faster than the best driver at the time either.

I understand why some think he may seem out of place, but i can understand what he is saying, and we all saw what happened in 2007, Hamilton has earned the rights to speak his mind.
There was never a rookie like LH, and that year was his to lose, blown away or not Alonso had no answer for him. Lewis was just faster, though less experienced.
For Sure!!

Well yes, the sport DOES need more drivers who speak their mind, no doubt - but surely within reasonable limits. Whether people like it or not, there's a VERY fine line between being confident and being downright arrogant. Now whilst I never did like Schumi as a driver, I was (and still am) very impressed by him as a person - Michael has a modest, quiet confidence which is admirable at the very least, and for that reason alone I've learned to like him.

I really appreciate Lewis for the sheer talent he has - the guy truly deserves the success he's achieved - BUT statements such as those won't gain him any favors from anyone. No driver should ever make statements at the expense of another.
