Help identify this Alfa Romeo

Post

I was reading a car magazine earlier today when I found myself staring at this beautiful red Alfa Romeo in an ad, but nowhere in the page was the name mentioned. So now I need the help of some historic [race]car gurus to identify it. I've searched quite a bit but none of the sites I looked in had it in their database, although I can't recall the name of a great car site which has almost every single model from high performance car companies.

I took a picture with my cell phone, hence the low quality.

I found it at the site I was looking for earlier.

It's a Giulietta SZ Coda Tronca

The rear end isn't so beautiful after all. :? I'm slightly disappointed.

"Coda Tronca" in italian means "severed tail" this is why the rear is so ugly.
The classic Giulietta SZ is much better:

Alfa followed a lot of manufacturers into the ugly realm trying to chase the aero benefits of the Shelby Cobra LM.

Some cars do look stunning with this sort of back side: Ferrari 250 GTO, 275, and a few others; C3 Stingray '69, and of course the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe. The Giulietta SZ Coda Tronca looks out of proportion though.

Man I love that thing! It´s absolutely stunning and it is quite fast even in todays standards, too bad they are so rare... I´d normally say that I want to drive one but considering that there are 18 made, well, seeing one would be enough :) Talking about the 33 Stradale offcourse

Beautiful, rare -- and it is being RACED! Got to love it.

On the Stradale -- did they actually build 18 of them? More of them around than GTOs?

Yes sir, that's the spiritual father of the 8c, and it had quite an engine for the times, though i'm sure by this point you've already dug up info on it, so i won't bore you with that :)
For the sake of the thread though let me post a couple more images of it, it is probably the car of my dreams

I wish they would have kept this style for the 8c only, and carried on with the Brera design language for the rest of the lower end models. Though had they done that the marketing dept would have probably ordered someone's head, even more so now that they want back into the US market.

The Giulietta line was a treasure of interesting designs and shapes.

FYI, the tail style was known as the Kamm tail.
