Turning radius determination

Post

Hi all,

I would like to know how to determine the turning radius of a open wheeled race car with the only the following data

1. Wheel base = 2 meters
2. Wheel track = 1.543 meters
3. Pivot to Pivot distance = 1.4 meters....

Pl help me out....

What is the pivot to pivot distance? In addition to your information you will need to know at least the steer angle of the front tyres.

Anyway, you can get an idea of the turn centre location (from top view) by drawing perpendicular lines from your tyres and finding the approximate interestion point.

This neglects slip angles so its a large simplification. What you are asking for is actually not such a simple request.

Tim is correct.
From the data you have supplied, you can´t estimate turning radius.
If you have speed and lateral acceleration you can approximate the radius on which the car
is traveling.

Better you keep out speed in the first steep and do only the geometry.
