That's a definite plan for brand number 13. It just depends of how urgently Fiat needs cash. With Fiat eyeing the NA market and a bigger slice of Chrysler an opportunity could arise anytime. Alfa would be given pretty much the Seat role of emotional, sportive brand. The Spanish brand simply does not have the heritage that Alfa could bring to the VW group and VW could easily triple their sales once the models are "platformized". Alfa within Fiat is very much under achieving compared to their rich heritage and sporting history.

VW
Audi
Seat
Skoda
Lamborghini
Bentley
Bugatti
Karman
Scania (80%)
MAN (30%)
Porsche
Suzuki (20%)
Alfa Romeo (plan)
Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best .............................. organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)

But I was under the impression that Alfa Romeo is a vital part of FIAT's North-American ambitions. It is their only brand that still resonates with the public there.

Anyway, this is off-topic, so never mind.

VW - NASCAR
Audi - ALMS LMP1 level/DTM
Seat - National Level Rally
Skoda - IRC/WRC
Lamborghini - GT1 Championship
Bentley - N/a
Bugatti - N/a
Karman - N/a
Scania (80%) - Truck Racking
MAN (30%) - Truck Racing
Porsche - Formula 1/GT2 & GT3/Carerra Cup/Supercup
Suzuki (20%) - IRC/WRC Specialised Rally (Pikes Peak)
Alfa Romeo (plan) - DTM (under current management)

I have no idea what will happen. You could be right. The commentators here in Germany think that Alfa isn't using it's potential.

Alfa doesn't resonate anything here in the NA car market. They are few and far between and nothing more than a cult following from the mid 90's. same with Fiat cars.

I'm not so sure. With 3 out of 5 new car buyers being over 50, I'm sure many of them remember this:

Then they'll be able sell the FIATs to the younger segment based on styling, performance and fuel efficiency.

I don't see why, if VW had full control over all those brands, they would compete with themselves in DTM or WRC.
Oh, and you forgot WTCC, where I personally would like to see Alfa instead of SEAT.
