If they’re testing, don’t they need to declare the specifics to justify a change on reliability grounds though? ie. RB would know and announce with glee to the world Merc’s engine troubles.
Not if they are messing with mappings, boost etc.

The other teams don't get told anything unless you are physically modified a component. Even then the details other teams get are vague and generalized.

Wouldn’t that be done on a dyno? In this way done live on track surely if they were actually testing, you’d test ‘new’ elements?

you won't get real world g loads, air flow, cooling etc. on a test bench.

I thought that once you go over your engine allocation (so when using fourth, fifth and sixth engine) you can only use the sixth. But conversation with my friends caught me a bit unsure about this. Can anyone shine some light on this?

That rule is about stacking PU in a single weekend. So if a driver gets 2 new PU in a weekend, only the PU used in the race will be added to the pool.

In this case it's a new weekend and a new PU so this new PU will be added to the pool and the oldest will be removed.

So basically Bottas has 3 new PU’s right now? Nice…

doesnt really matter though, he just opens the door for Max anyway,
all that's missing is putting his arm out and making a bow.

Essentially, it's Hamilton vs the RedBull Army consisting of Max, Bottas, Perez, Gasly and Tsunoda. Next season that includes Albon.

while also sending off 4 Hamilton players to make it more interesting"

This device was always present but it wasn't able to be used until recently. Remeber the issues they had with floor stability? Yeah., was porbably too risky to have that drop activate back then.

But it does matter as you could see in Turkey. Its not like Bottas will pull over to let Verstappen by if he has more pace. Maybe that's a reason to give Bottas another fresh PU. It could be Mercedes thinks it will give enough performance to keep Bottas in front of Verstappen.

If bottas can get to the top 4 rather efficiently he should be in verstappens pit window before the first stops. But that is a big if and realistically he will struggle to get by the Mclarens and Ferraris.

Let's hope that they have pushed the set up to be more responsive in dirty air.
