RB and Max had the upper hand this year but there’s no denying Lewis and Mercedes could’ve denied them. But it was a combination of them not being good enough at the races they should’ve been strong and won at, and the conditions not going their way too many times, a rather big disparity to RB in that. Sometimes things just go more your way some seasons. F1 has so many variables, the stars need to align sometimes. Some things are out of your control. If somethings went more Mercedes way after the summer break it could’ve been theirs.

Why i disagree slightly is that if mercedes were ahead redbull would just push harder on upgrades and work Perez harder at spoiling Bottas and Lewis' race. Where Hamilton could have been ahead i see equally where Redbull could also have done better to fight back.
So far i think Mercedes made mostly strategic errors and may a few driver errors. The main errors were with strategy, but when you have the slower car, you pay more for risky decisions.
But all is not lost.. i still beleive Hamilton can be Champion this year. The driving gods are mysterious.

It seems that here they retained HAM`s RW that both drivers were running at Mexico race, compared to RB which runs here a spoon RW for a better top speed ... nevertheless even on these conditions, HAM was 6km/h faster on top speed trap due to the new ICE ...

Only way that the extreme engine degradation can be explained. The engine will be junk after 1000km (after quatar)

This is likley the only way that Merc could bridge the gap in downforce. All or nothing!

It was a bit confusing when Hamilton said Verstappen has pole now but I think Lewis meant that Verstappen will probably finish sprint race on P2 and thereby gets pole due to his grid drop.

Don’t be. Ham is incredibly smart. So think from that perspective. He is already saying I will likely win the sprint qualy, Max 2 Bottas 3 and then Max will inherit Pole for the real race.

Ofcourse that was a downplay as Any race start had the potential for a crash, overtake etc.

A few mm on the DRS isn’t going to give 4 tenths.

In fact, as Scarbs pointed out, it can induce drag.

Regardless, if it’s out of spec, it’s out of spec. Unless Max did it when breaking the ISC.
