Red Bull RB18 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It was just pointed out on Reddit that this is actually the same teaser image they have used last year as well. So it's completely pointless to try and get anything out from it.

Red Bull announced this morning that they are planning an upgrade package for the first race, which mirrors Mclarens announcement from earlier in the week.

Translation: we have some bits for the car we don't want to reveal to our rivals until the first race.
If it's significant enough to want to hide from rivals surely you'd want to see how it performs on track in testing?

My guess is that normal procedure for all
Of the top teams is: launch car is relative basic, this is used to fine tune the sim, CFD and tunnel so the Barcelona update is calculated more precise. The first race update is done with the not yet 100% fine tuned windtunnel, CFF and sim but would give them to much variables to sync everything if they used that for the test.

For instance, they launch and test with two vanes on the sidepod so they can measure the vortex and put that next to the CFD. The first race sidepod already has 5, but with the test calculations there will be 7 in Barcelona and in just the right spot.

Teams nowadays are used to evaluating upgrades during a race weekend, it's what they'll be doing all year.

This is much different from the days of unlimited testing where were used to approve any upgrade package before a race weekend, which also meant running the in race ready specification car for at least 3 days during the winter.

The teams will have reasonable confidence that the upgrade is a good one most of the time. Occasionally we see an upgrade that doesn't work, but this early on in a rule set, you'd expect to be able to find performance improvements reasonably easily - no car at the start of a new rule set is close to being 100% optimised.

Did you also send a message to the admin of RBR who mentioned 5 pm CET in their announcement at 5:01 p.m. Β· 7 feb. 2022,
so that everyone understands what time they mean and they can correct it?

Ok. That is not possible with a CET time. It's encrypted #-o
