Red Bull RB18 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It is a new car, just not THE car.
Nah, it's an old car now - this thing has been doing the rounds for months. Here it is last year albeit with a 4-part front wing rather than the 3-part one on Red Bull's "car":

Even the roll hoop air intake is the same shape.
I was being facetious.
Yeah, I know, but this is more fun than the Red Bull "launch" not-event.

That seems like an extremely basic launch spec to be honest.

Shame Honda is nowhere on the car
Yeah it's on there, there is a small HRC (Honda Racing Corporation) logo as expected. Oh well, nice Oracle announcement  , not much of a car launch when it's the FOM model.

We don't know how the negotiations are. There is always the possibly of Honda arranging some kind of on-car sponsorship and/or power unit naming rights sponsorship with Red Bull Racing at a later point... There is a big yellow nose (well perhaps a slim yellow nose on the actual car) with no logo on it for example.

Edit -- A lot of these deals, Red Bull on the engine cover to make space for Oracle on the sidepods, etc were probably already locked in. It doesn't preclude Honda returning as a sponsor & engine naming rights sponsor of Red Bull Racing in 2023. Red Bull Racing will likely always welcome having more sponsorship (to a point).

Indeed, if they wish Red Bull Powertrains to be classed a new PU supplier for 2026, they still may need to change the name of the engine to (say) HRC for this season rather than Red Bull Powertrains as it is on the current entry list. I guess it depends how the FIA views that.

Well at least the Livery Launch was better than their sister teams annual Fashion Parade

Horner “it’s going to be a lot different when it hits the track”.

He is pretty polished at spinning things and just throwing them out there in a single breath.

If basic means non-existent, then yeah

What a SHAME. Formula 1 car launches have been sacred for me since I was 6, and now we have this farse endorsed by FOM.

I liked how JM called it an Oracle sponsor launch. Accurate.

Yeah, I just glanced over it before. But looking a bit more closely, this is just one of the basic models we have seen before.

Very dissappointing. This is not a launch at all. Pointless event imo since we all knew the livery was going to be the same.

So they can't even call it a livery launch.
