2022 car comparison thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

2022 car comparison thread

Post

Just thought I'd start this thread ahead of the real cars becoming visible to the fans etc.

At the moment, here are the 2022 cars for us to compare:

Seriously, as we see the real things arrive, we can compare them here.

Edit:

Two cars so far:

No. The cars aren't the same. Front wing for a start...

It just looks like they took the ‘other’ show car nose.

The closest we can get to a "comparison" at this point.

I feel like we have seen two fairly extreme yet divergent approaches to the engine cover/sidepods. Interesting to see which (if either) is more prevalent and, more importantly, which one is faster at the end of the day.

Haas seems to be much more rooted in the ideas of 2017-21 given the aggressively tapered sidepods and the inboard-loaded front wing, whereas the Aston is more different. The similarities to the 2018 Williams and 1992 Ferrari don't necessarily bode well for Aston, as both of those were pretty shocking, albeit for different reasons .

I'm not so sure those sidepods are final on the aston martin. I think the final design will align along where the holes in the bodywork are.

YMMV
Unfortunately the Aston prediction he made was wide of the mark. Let's see his success rate in a week or so.

I agree. I gave myself wiggle room with the YMMV in posting that, because 1) how much could one person know 2) why would he be posting it online

They did use that car model for their teaser shots already, buying those didn't necessarily mean they would def. use them for their presentations (which seems to be the conclusion made by that person), they might have also kept them as a fallback in case they couldn't finish a (show) car on time.

p.s.: shouldn't this thread be in the technical area? last year's was at least ...

Comparisson between models and actual cars:

No udercut at sidepods, big airbox with the hump, quite big intakes on the sidepods as well.

So far I must say the Red Bull & Mclaren, followed by HAAS looks best. AM aerodynamics looks clumsy and low budget like Williams.
of course looks can be deceiving and I am only a armchair expert.

I assume you mean the livery of Red Bull, because the car they have shown is not the real deal.
