2022 car comparison thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Does anyone know the source of those images?

xpb has some nice ones, despite the watermarks, but it's none of theirs https://xpbimages.com/f1/event/f1-2022-tst01/we

I read this on a German site, but I don't understand it. Can somebody explane it to me? (picture?)
.
The author is referring to this:

.
Thank you! Is that allowed this year?
We now see a similar device on the RedBull, so presumably someone else also thinks it's legal.

Maybe this is useful for comparison? Not my work Image

Probably the most obvious thing from this is that RB's actual sidepod inlets are significantly rearwards compared to everyone else (relative to the front wheel). Alpine 2nd most.

I threw the same image into PS and the cars weren't properly scaled judging by the wheel size, the Merc is at an angle and will appear shorter than it is ... don't know how much those lines can tell us

Ah yeah had a feeling that was the case. Only would draw the most obvious things from it.. but then lines aren't required at that point. Thank you for confirming it has little use!

In those diffuser pictures one item that isn't highlighted is the curl on the lower right/left side near the wheel. Seems like both Merc and Ferrari have it, while RB18 has only a hint of it, practically no curl.

I've posted in the RB18 thread a couple of images that seem to show a much more involved design in this area of the RB.
