Aston Martin AMR22

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Is it the colour or is the Mercedes wing so much larger area?
its larger. Look at the outer edge as well at the base wing plane, less taper to the corners.
Yes I agree, the 2 elements look very similar in size for the whole length. Where as the other cars look smaller on the lower element , certainly at the ends.
Yeah, although it could be more to do with angle than dimension?

I think the angles are almost identical, as you can just see the tops of the front tyres in all the pics (merc, ferrari, mclaren). If the angle went up or down a small amount this would change a fair bit.

Hard to make out the geometry from this angle. You can see the converging diverging duct created by the inner most strake and the plank section.

the merc wing is clearly much bigger, the main plane is flat for much more of its width compared to everybody elses wings

Sharp angles in the rear wing of the Aston Martin (compared to the more rounded ones in the rest of the field):

How many turbulences are there from the sidepod to the wheel winglets?

Going by Vettels comment, AMR22 is handful from set-up perspective -

Aston have been unusually quiet for testing, it seems they have brought almost no new parts compared to their initial launch? Perhaps Bahrain package in the works?

Vettel said it's a steep learning curve & hope the team will be in control before the end of the season. That means ARM22 design is still WIP.

Vettel:
“I can’t say at the minute we are seeing the peak but it is fun, the challenge is fun."

“There is the belief that one day we will reach the peak, hopefully just before the season."

Going by his comments looks to be issues like porpoising etc are not allowing them to run car to its full potential and is hoping for a fix in Bahrain before season starts to extract maximum out of the car.

Vettel makes it sound like the car is a dog. The rumors of a mid-season B-spec are somewhat more credible.
