That's what I was thinking, those were not the new ducts from yesterday but I didn't know if they'd managed to get a last minute better fix out particularly as the team was apparently working through the night.

One of McLaren's priorities - if not its biggest priority - in these practice sessions is to evaluate its new brake ducts after the cooling problems it suffered last week.

This is still not a "final, ideal solution" according to team principal Andreas Seidl. It's only an "interim" fix as the team did what it could with the limited time between the test and this event.

"The factory was flat out in the last seven, eight days in order to provide us with the solution we have on the cars now which we have to evaluate now in free practice," said Seidl. "Hopefully, it allows us then to get back to normal running, to get back into our rhythm as well, which we lost a bit during the last test.

"We still need to quantify now once we go running on track how we actually can run this interim solution."
