I reckon RB will be .250 clear of Ferrari and Merc will bring up the 3rd row .375-.450 away from P1

Car looks mighty in s3 that should be a merc sector
I'm betting they raised the ride height, and thus lost downforce. Hence why they are on par in sectors 1 & 3, but struggling in sector 2!
I was checking to see if they was significantly raised, couldn't see it, but we could be talking millimetres.
Russells now seem to be worse so I wonder if he will get Lewis's setup.
Plus they are increasing tyre pressures which may help, though was they run in FP3?

Well it seems like Max on pole.. question is by what margin?
Considering that Mick Schumacher had purple S2 two times, in the end of the session, I reckon there is way too much performance to come from most cars.

Because this is a technical forum, and making statements like that is just make belive and will continue the slide downwards that this forum has been on for the last 3-4yrs.
Yes, the forum slid down impressively since the last time I was still very active(2014). But it´s not only due to Hamilton haters, most of his fans aren´t great contributors to the forum, either. ( Mea culpa : On many of my posts, I´m not a great contributor either, these days, to make it clear. When I was active, I would post mostly on the technical threads and now almost always on the "general chat" part which will inevitably consists of more "fanboyistic" posts anyway)

Let´s see what will happen to the forum in about 2 and a half hours from now, I can´t promise anything

You know, you can leave people post stupid comments without responding in a disgusting way.
Some of us are getting real tired of stupid trolling comments(not talking about any one post specifically)! This used to be a forum for intelligent technically minded people, now it's no better than reddit. If something substantial isn't done about it, the forum will be in Twitter and Facebook territory before too long!
After the race thread trolling from last year i was hoping this year would be calmer , but seems not.
Better just close the race threads till people cool down or something. It is a technical forum let them do their my driver is better then your driver on reddit.

The original comment also needs removing too as its just an attempt to blatantly troll and get reactions like it did.
Why?
To several members of this forum, for the last 8 years, it has been perfectly correct to hype Hamilton up and imply he is the one making the results, not the horrible Mercedes´ cars that the poor chap has been carrying around on his back for almost a decade now. However, if someone dares to imply that VER´s car is not that good and he is the one making the difference, then, that gets imediately tagged as "trolling" and the post is asked to be removed

In the autosport forum is much worse, though. If you dare to say that other drivers are faster than Hamilton, you get banned! No, I´m not kidding about that
No technically minded person on this forum has ever called a 2014 and forward merc horrible, that is how I know your post is untrue. Hamilton, as Verstappen, has, for the most part, dominated his teammate in the same equipment. None of us is privy to enough data to say which is dragging more out of their car. Allowing that type of nonsense talk around here will definitely lower the quality of this forum. What you describe is in your head and has not been the norm around here.

Seems reasonable for Ferrari on this basis. Less engine mode (seemingly), closer through the corners than yesterday?

Actually, I havn't seen this posted, what I have seen is the exact opposite to what you have stated though. Strange.
On more recent times, the, let´s say, "worship" of Lewis considerably diminished on the forum, which is good.
FOM graphics are horrible. They credited MSC with purple S2 for two times and it turns out it´s far from the truth, going by that image. Does anybody know a place to check the best sector times of FPs other than the official, paid, app? On fia.com, they post best sector times of QLF only.

You know, Merc may have pole yet

Max, Charles and Lewis all did their first quick laps close together

Max has the highest top speed, then Charles, then Lewis

With Charles speed to come and Lewis's I can't see RB having pole or else it will be very close

What is the deal with the FIA saying they will clamp down on dominance, if Redbull is so much faster will they start to be legalised back into the pack?
So much faster !?
Hope that applies to times for example when Merc back in the day had easily a structural advantage of over 1s/lap.
I bet pole vs 2nd will be no more than 0.2s ...

this weekend this Twitter account always posted screenshots of it after the sessions. No idea if they'll keep doing it, but it may be worth a look

Race director Niels Wittich told the drivers in the driver briefing last night that the track limits this year will be defined by the white line at every circuit, and the rule will not change.
This is so important and the main reason why Masi needed to go, what stopped Masi from implementing and enforcing this already codified regulation other than incompetence? To be fully fair Whiting did not fully enforce it either.

Now that the track limits are being enforced the white line can be used to determine when one driver pushes another off track. I look forward to much better officiating this season.

As an it guy makes me wonder really how they have tested these new graphics , did they run in parallel last year to check if they work or just thought lets see what happens on the first race?

Both teams are hiding their hand still, maybe Ferrari's hiding a bit more for now. Maybe. Q3 will tell.
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

FP3 Max speeds

6 MAG 318
7 SCH 318

15 HAM 309
16 STR 309
17 HUL 308
18 RUS 307
19 RIC 307

I can only think of 3 explanations

1. Running Lower
2. The new fuel has hit them hard
3. Outdeveloped in the last few months, espcially with Merc engineers joining other teams

I'll go with 2
