Am waiting for Ted's notebook on this. Usually brings some context we didn't get in the coverage
Should this be comfortingdiffuser wrote: ↑20 Mar 2022, 19:14Really only the top 3 teams were on the same lap. 7 teams got lapped.Michelangelo wrote: ↑20 Mar 2022, 19:10Them being lapped is not really surprising. They are a midfield team in a long race with significantly fast front runners.
Very few people were hyping Alpine. This is the result I expected, and I'm annoyed that I was right about it in the end. I wanted to be wrong.Alonso Fan wrote: ↑20 Mar 2022, 20:15Lol u guys hype urselves up and then are disappointed! Always keep expectations in check and ull have a much better day. I for 1 am very happy with the result overall, double points, made it to the end, alo was shocking though and surely needs to work on race pace. Did get a cracker of a start but got blocked by slow starting bottas. And just stayed there. Maybe age showing a bit? No idea. But just the first race of the long year. Let's see how it develops. Ocon did a solid job. Kind of surprised haas and alfa lasted the whole race.
Why annoyance though? Sure I agree we would like to see them up near the front but is that realistic given they've made no new signings in the aero department (that I know of)? Aston is who should be disappointed and properly annoyed considering all the hirings they've made and restructuring that's gone on. Alpine will be as good as its aero department is.AR3-GP wrote: ↑20 Mar 2022, 20:20Very few people were hyping Alpine. Well resume it was test but i dont think with this group of ingeniors fry and co they will fight in the front in the futur they dont have enough talent and creativity to design a winning carBisonas wrote: ↑20 Mar 2022, 20:35The only positive things i am taking from this race, is 1st) the PU on both cars made it to the end and they gathered a lot of PU related data in race trim (i don't think PU is running full power yet or with optimal race engine maps) 2nd) the cars where running with different parts and different configuration so they now have much more data to analyze. 3rd) they raced all the dry tire compounds available so they gathered a lot of data on the tires also.
Other than that, Ocon did a decent job, and Alonso well, he was eating the tires for breakfast, no matter what compound he was on. I guess it was more car setup and balance issue than his driving, BUT i do have to point out, that multiple teams where instructing their drivers to not push their tires in the first laps, especially the mediums, and that Alpine never gave such instruction to Alonso.
So overall i see this race as another testing session. A very important one for the future.
