The RB has similar steps but the MCL ones look bigger.SmallSoldier wrote: ↑27 May 2022, 20:26The steps from the tub on the rear part of the floor are interesting and I believe fairly unique to the MCL36, also note the vortex generators on the flap on the sides of the floor
Thanks! I wonder what they are trying to do with those steps.Blackout wrote: ↑28 May 2022, 08:32The RB has similar steps but the MCL ones look bigger.SmallSoldier wrote: ↑27 May 2022, 20:26The steps from the tub on the rear part of the floor are interesting and I believe fairly unique to the MCL36, also note the vortex generators on the flap on the sides of the floor

Think the verdict is how well they do on track.mclaren111 wrote: ↑28 May 2022, 12:44
So what's the verdict on our floor compared to the others we have seen ??
Probably same thing floats on aircraft or boats have steps on their hulls.SmallSoldier wrote: ↑28 May 2022, 14:13Thanks! I presume you mean the air guides? The higher sections (or lower depending on how you're looking at it) on the floor?A.J.O wrote: ↑28 May 2022, 16:08Probably same thing floats on aircraft or boats have steps on their hulls.SmallSoldier wrote: ↑28 May 2022, 14:13Thanks! The objects that have the yellow arrows pointing at them in the photo. On the inboard side on the venturi. Just before the diffuser.diffuser wrote: ↑28 May 2022, 17:20I presume you mean the air guides? Was looking at the wrong photo. I have no idea what the steps pointed to by the yellow arrows are doing. If I had to guess...A.J.O wrote: ↑29 May 2022, 00:11The objects that have the yellow arrows pointing at them in the photo. On the inboard side on the venturi. Just before the diffuser.
Are they called "air guides" in this application?
On a boat or aircraft float they are used to break the laminar flow in order to reduce drag.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems that Ferrari keep all the incoming flow under the floor feeding the venturi while McL divert the central portion above the floor around the sidepods. It could makes quite a big difference imo.
