Another great article featuring plenty of quotes from Key:
https://the-race.com/formula-1/exactly- ... d-it-back/

It makes me excited for McLaren's future prospects when you hear about the limitations the engineering team current have with facilities and how much potential there should be for improved car performance following these weaknesses being addressed in the next couple of years.
Thanks for posting… I wasn’t that far off thinking that the MCL36 didn’t liked high track temperatures :)

From Key: “Key pinpointed the 2022 McLaren MCL36’s main weaknesses as being excessive drag and sensitivity to high track temperatures.”
Definitely a good catch. So with the high temperatures affecting the brakes also at the start of the season, it was understandably a very tricky opener in Bahrain.

I thought exactly the same  specially given the recent rumors.

So we’re expecting the final homologised PUs this weekend are we? Isn’t this we here they lock in the hybrid upgrades as the final part of the engine freeze?

Obviously all PU manufacturers will have been pushing, but there was talk that Merc would find some performance in their final updated version?

Be good to know if that is delivered this weekend and whether we take that new PU

The team have announced it which makes one believe they must be confident in resolving the Piastri situation swiftly now. I hope Daniel's move and Piastri's announcement can be sorted before the weekend to lend some more certainty to those involved and make the whole thing less distracting for the team

Really sad it ended like this for Dan. Hope he finds his mojo again at another team. Glad we got to see that first win in 10 years for McLaren by him tho.

Excited to see what Piastri can do next year.

Finally. He should have have been hired. Going to be some painful 6 months still, wish they would replace him mid-season.

Absolutely… It just didn’t work out.

He seems genuinely sad to leave the team:

Goodness me, the bloke has essentially been forced out a year early and you still want to kick a good guy when he’s down?

He’s had his first and only bad patch in F1 and just look at the pack of wolves waiting for him.

Hope he absolutely knocks it out of the park at a new team next year. I suspect strongly that our team and car has some drawbacks that are holding him back and are being papered over by Landos youth and fearlessness.

He seems genuinely sad to leave the team:

He looks gutted, like when the partner you have strong feelings for doesn't actually want to be around you.

He looked emotional, bless him. I hope he has a tremendous end to his Mclaren career.

"So the team decided to make a change." So it wasn't his wish to leave the team. :-(
