Lost about a tenth vs his first lap in the last corner looking at the telemetry.runningmanz wrote: ↑03 Sep 2022, 16:56To be fair Dan just said on Sky the lap was going ok until the car in front put a wheel on the dirt and he lost about 3/10ths with the resulting dirt all over the track going into last corner. Not saying he was quicker than Lando but would have made Q2 easy.
I was thinking about the Simulator, not the Tunnel for calibration … with the tunnel there will be work on correlation between the Tunnel and Track (often problems are because of lack of it)… So they will try to make sure that the correlation is right using a previous generation carA.J.O wrote:What role does any driver have with calibrating a wind tunnel? I wouldn't even think a car (or model) had anything to do with the calibration. From my understanding calibration has more to do with verifying output with measurements.SmallSoldier wrote: ↑03 Sep 2022, 15:28
The Tunnel calibration will be done most probably by a reserve or sim driver on a previous generation car, it won’t be done by the F1 drivers…
IE if the belt is set at a certain speed, its then verified with a measuring devise to be traveling at set speed.
Why would this make a difference.runningmanz wrote: ↑03 Sep 2022, 16:56To be fair Dan just said on Sky the lap was going ok until the car in front put a wheel on the dirt and he lost about 3/10ths with the resulting dirt all over the track going into last corner. To be very very very fair McLaren kicked out Ricciardo a long time ago because he is consistently slow. There aren't any excuses anymore.runningmanz wrote: ↑03 Sep 2022, 16:56To be fair Dan just said on Sky the lap was going ok until the car in front put a wheel on the dirt and he lost about 3/10ths with the resulting dirt all over the track going into last corner. I think we’re bang where we deserve to be to be honest. The car cannot keep competitive across the wider variety of circuits. It’s handy at Zandvoort, Monaco, Hungary, but seriously poor at others. There’s some PU element to that, in that the competition has at the very least caught up with Mercedes, if not surpassed, but the car concept has some issues compared with the top guys.Darth-Piekus wrote: ↑03 Sep 2022, 16:07The thing is that in my opinion the team should change at how they see things. They are going too conservative. The next time they create their first car they should claim that this is not enough and go for even better.
Argh. --- off Perez. Come on. Costed some good finish today.
Mclaren is just unlucky. In races where they are good something happens and they miss a good finish.
When you are driving at the limit of adhesion, Dirt on the track reduces grip! seriously, some of You need to learn some physics!Swed3121 wrote: ↑03 Sep 2022, 20:46Why would this make a difference.runningmanz wrote: ↑03 Sep 2022, 16:56To be fair Dan just said on Sky the lap was going ok until the car in front put a wheel on the dirt and he lost about 3/10ths with the resulting dirt all over the track going into last corner. Every driver makes some small mistake on their lap, it just turns out that Dan does more of them than lando. Therefore he is slower.
even if he went 3 tenths quicker he doesn't make q2... looking at the telemetry from his previous lap he lost maybe 0.1-0.2..anyway I still think his delta was much closer to Lando overall this week around 3-4tenths despite the shorter track its still pretty technical.runningmanz wrote: ↑03 Sep 2022, 16:56To be fair Dan just said on Sky the lap was going ok until the car in front put a wheel on the dirt and he lost about 3/10ths with the resulting dirt all over the track going into last corner. and sauber will eventually become Audi so they will be ahead of us. Torro Rosso will get the red bull's car design and will be ahead of us. Then you have williams on the rise with Jost Capito in charge so williams can be ahead of us. Again Haas will get the Ferrari car design so they will be ahead of us. Yep we are looking at P10 or P11 (or even P12) in the standings next year.Mansell89 wrote: ↑04 Sep 2022, 00:58I think we’re bang where we deserve to be to be honest. Next year could be very difficult in terms of battling with other improving teams. Aston Martin have started to show early glimmers of promise under Dan Fallows. Alpine are a works team and at some point they ought to look like one. Can easily be 6th or lower whilst we hang in there for the new and very important facilities.
Next season will be interesting to watch what teams have learned, and what they have saved for next year given the budget restraints of this year.
You try driving through a bunch of sand and dirt and see how fast you are!
But its OK because in 5 years time the novelty will have worn off in the boardroom and they will all pull out again leaving tail end teamsgenarro wrote: ↑04 Sep 2022, 13:55and sauber will eventually become Audi so they will be ahead of us. I wasnt referring to his lap in qualifying. More a comment on his overall demeanour the past few months. Low on confidence and it’s really showing. I didn’t mention his speed this week at all more the energy he is projecting.
As Daniel points out, the same debris on the circuit was the main cause of Vettel losing it (he was behind Daniel on track).
