The team does have it's own Newey actually.... He's just well hidden!
Opponents would hope he would remain hidden forever.

There is article on the-race.com that is predicting Mercedes to move away from vertical sidepods for W14.

F1 2022 steering wheels.
The aeronautical yoke has been around since the 1930s so I don't see how Lewis could be awarded a patent for an upside down yoke or for cutting off half of the steering wheel. It's a preferential design that not all teams adopted. Williams and Red Bull still have closed loops, I don't see why some of these articles are saying Red Bull copied Lewis's designs.

It's what the teams do and we discuss every year.

I would think most drivers want controls in a different place to suit themselves. Left hand or right hand etc. Some would prefer a thumbwheel and others a knob.
Don't know how many teams would comply, but assume most would try to accommodate where they can.
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

Not even sure why someone took the time to even write a story on that. Limelight clutching at best. As others have said it’s not a new invention, and many others run a closed loop design.

Shame he couldn’t have put the magic button in the right place eh!

Probably worried about the cost. Some teams do worry about such things... :-"

Yeah, but it didn't breach the cost cap.

He created the wheel with the bottom cut off.
We had a thead on his and Schumachers innovations actually.

"Lewis Hamilton technical level" i believe it was called.

No wheel exosted like that before.

Fhe aeroplane yolk with the bowtie design is not the same. Different purposes.

Having an idea is not the same as designing.

I’m fairly certain that I saw something very similar in an FSAE car a long time ago.
As I recall THEY got the idea from a land speed racer & it was based on a set of motorcycle ‘clamp-on’ handlebars, it used the motorcycle controls as well. It was based on getting a low profile to the cockpit.

I was saying it was silly to say he should have "copywrited" the design in F1. I mean, that like trying to copywrite cut-off jeans as "shorts"!🤣

Changing the layout of common buttons isn't super impressive in and of itself. I'm sure many drivers have made modifications for preference over the years. 🙄 and look really closely. It's like a <2% difference between the wheel layouts.

It's not the button layout he's talking about but the rim with the bottom of the handles opened.

Of course it could be pattented as new type of steering wheel.
