Just mention as some are taking 'sides' here, this is not about Red Bull, Honda, or Max. It is those parties involved now, but what happens now is what will happen next time too, and will have an effect on how likely other teamS are to do it and what happens when they are caught.
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

So, no surprises, Red Bull cheated and FIA applied a (non)penalty that is what all of us were expecting.
It's impossible to tell if the overspend actually helped them, so keep on dreaming. 0,36% overspend... 450.000 euro #-o

In 2022, a $10k USD, you can build a multi-teraflop desktop CFD computer for your home.

I never understood how these aero engineers are prevented from doing "studies" at home, then bringing that knowledge to the office, and re-create their findings there.

🤔
Or, how you can prohibit one team to run a simulation using 1000s cores in the cloud paid by a sponsor.
Seriously.

This is the thing everyone seems to be ignoring.

They have not got the tax deduction so at this moment it is still a 2.2 overspend.
2.2 million.

Massive spending break, absolute travesty.

The Red Bull cap breach is equivalent to the Ben Johnson scandal at the 1988 Seoul summer Olympics . Johnson was disqualified and gold medal given to Carl Lewis.

Yes, who can prove the overspend money can be put in XX performance gains? Maybe they totally spent the extra money wrong and got another research them the (extra) gain??

I wouldn't be surprised is next year Mercedes dominates again. Then in 2024 we will learn that they had a "minor breach" of 2.5 mil, which of course is equal to the same amount as RB including inflation..

And further that consequently its Relevant Costs for the 2021 Reporting Period exceeded the 2021 Cost Cap by £1,864,000 (1.6%). RBR has therefore accepted that it has breached: (i) Article 8.2(e) of the Financial Regulations due to its failure to file accurate Full Year Reporting Documentation in respect of the 2021 Full Year Reporting Period, and (ii) Article 8.10(b) of the Financial Regulations due to its failure to keep its Relevant Costs under the 2021 Cost Cap.

The FIA acknowledges that had RBR applied the correct treatment within its Full Year Reporting Documentation of RBR’s Notional Tax Credit within its 2021 submission of a value of £1,431,348, it would have been considered by the Cost Cap Administration to be in compliance with Article 4.1(b) of the Regulations and therefore RBR’s Relevant Costs for the 2021 Reporting Period would have in fact exceeded the 2021 Cost Cap by £432,652 (0.37%).

As stated above they did get the tax credit, it's right there in the freaking document. What they didn't do was apply it correctly in their financial report.

If the report can be corrected upwards you should also be allowed to correct it downwards, especially for what looks like a procedural issue (maybe RB didn't worry about it because it wasn't needed for their initial budget?)

The punishment is very fair, IMO. It won't change the running order any time soon but maybe Ferrari and Mercedes will be closer at the end of next season because of it.

Would could etc etc etc
Do you really believe that a multimillion organisation that can apply complex tax rules to their beneft and at the same time follow a complex cost cap set of rules cannot apply correctly some forms to the tax authorities?

Causing 2 to 4 million in damages to your opponents by probable deliberate crashes: 10 sec. + 5 grid places penalty: "Harsh penalty."
Overspending by 400.000 on drinks, food, various social security payments, etc that you easily would've handled/paid out differently on hindsight, ergo no likely performance influence, after having an unexpected 2 to 4 million extra cost in damages caused by opponents: Massive wind tunnel penalty + massive cash penalty: "Weak penalty, what a joke"

People are funny.

Move the post again, cause what happened in 2021 stays in 2021, while its literally a discussion on 2021. #-o
