I"m not against anything but the 2023 tires they have been testing DO require the 100C operating temp. What was proposed, correct me if I'M wrong, was Tire blankets that only heat to 70C with a finishing agent that would fire them up quickly and/or the teams would have to deal with a warm up phase.
Yeah, it would have to be one or the other wouldn't it? Either tyres designed to work without heating or allow heating. It is a bodge up as it stands
I have no idea what the big deal is either way as long as it's safe. Not sure how much energy the blankets uses. The blankets are probably set at 100C. they probably need an hour to warm the tires up to the right temp? The energy used can't be more than 5 or 6 stoves per car, 12 hours per race weekend? That would be the most. I doudt they have all the tires in heating blankets during free practise. Probably just what's in the program and an extra set or two. You'd think Pirelli would want Real P-zeros on there.
Sky were talking with the Pirelli guy at one of the recent races, the memory might be a bit foggy but I think they were planning on dropping the temp to 50c next year, but found that might not be safe. So instead 70c but limit the amount of time vs what they have been allowed currently. I think it's currently 3hrs but they are reducing it to 2hrs, they also found this saves more energy vs lowering the temp to 50c for the longer, current time. Someone please correct if I got the numbers wrong.
